Agricultural Service Diplomas, the highest honour for dedication and work with rural fairs in Ontario, were presented to Murray and Alleen Byers as the Blackstock Agricultural Soclety held its annual meeting last Thursday night in Blackstock. Grandparents were kept busy with the children. Those who en- joyed the winter break were Dave and Donna Kyte, Bob and Linda Kyte, Lawrence and Linda McLaughlin, Denzil and Tallya Moore, Floyd and Nancy Kyte, Ron and Ellie Martyn along with others from neighbouring areas. Muriel and Henry Wotten, Dave and Lois Wotten have returned from an enjoyable three-week vacation in Hawan. we wi pe looking forward to seeing Muriel's slides of this trip., A new 4-H Club for the 90's is ready to begin for anyone who was 11 by January 1, 1990. The project "Your Best Foot For- ward' will help members decide acceptable behaviour, show your consideration of others as well as etiquette, introductions, dining out, travel tips and dating. Several from this area enjoyed attending Monster Truck Show held in the Toronto Dome on Saturday and Sunday. Lots of noise, smoke and excitement at this event. A speedy recovery is wished for Chris Bryant who broke his arm playing hockey recently. On Thursday evening the Blackstock Agricultural Society annual meeting was attended by a large number in spite of the un- favourable weather conditions. A delicious pot luck supper was en- joyed. President David Petrie surprised Secretary Joyce Kelly with a beautiful cake to honour the beginning of her Twenty-fifth year as Secretary. Guest speaker Eddie Luther CKQT, Oshawa, enlightened the audience about various radio per- sonalities with whom he has worked in his long and successful career. He also told about his im- pressions of Blackstock Fair as a first-time visitor. Leah Frew ex- pressed the appreciation of the audience with the presentation of a floral gift. The many reports in- dicated a most successful year. The Executive for next year will be President - David Petrie, 1st Vice - Dale Van Camp, 2nd Vice - Leah Frew, Homecraft President - Kathy Hill, Vice Presi- dent, Homecraft - Dorothy Lee. Plans were made to attend the 0.A.A.S. Convention in Toronto on February 20-22. If you wish to be included call either David or Joyce as soon as possible. The first meeting of the 1990 year will be on the regular night on Feb. 8, at the Rec. Centre. Mark your calendar. Hector and May Shortridge were Sunday dinner guests of Vic- tor and Winnie Malcolm of Bowmanville. Gerald and Joyce Kelly were Sunday evening dinner guests of Eunice and Herman Rodman, Wilson and Blair of Little Britain. The Blackstock Curling Club Executive met at the home of the President Dale Van Camp on Thursday afternoon to finalize plans for the annual Bob Fletcher Memorial Bonspiel which will be held on Feb. 3 at the arena. After the curling, dinner will be served by the Ladies' Curling League. The evening will be spent in play- ing darts. If you have not already signed up, space is limited. Act soon. Congratulations to Joanne Boyce who received honours of her recent Grade 2 Theory. Her very proud music teacher is Lori Beare. Mrs. Ruby Trewin of Bowman- ville visited several relatives in the area on Sunday afternoon. Evelyn and Bill Reimer, Beverley and Susan, St. Catherines were Sunday guests of her sister June and Harry Degler, Roy and Glen. Sports Announcement The YMCA, Durham Region started their first night of Floor Hockey at Cartwright Public School last Tuesday the 23rd with an action packed hour of competi- tion. Top scorers for this 10-13 year age group were Craig Rowntree, scoring 7 of his team's 12 goals and Brent Donnelly who scored 5 for his team. Further points were scored by Doug Lynde, Scott Page, Jeremy Wilcox, Brennan Malcolm and Carl Davies for their teams total of 12 and Jonathan McCourt, Ben Stephenson, Mike Leach and Adam Vivian helped add to their team's total of 11 points. It took five hard minutes of overtime to break the tie at the end of the game with Craig scor- ing the winning goal. The "Y" would like to say a special thank-you to Doug Sup- pelsa and Brian Youmans of Port Perry for their valuable instruc- tion and referring skills and for helping to set up the new teams that night. An hour of fun floor hockey was also enjoyed by some dads and sons at Cartwright last Tuesday. Any other parents of children 6-9 years who would like to join the fun can come from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday nights.
