Douglas Sparks,11, of R.R. #3, Little Britain was out with his friend Andrew Thorne last Thursday night, when he caught two pickerel, a five pound, and an eight pound. Douglas was fishing near Pleasant Point on Lake Scugog with a home-made fishing rod, when he made the catches. Pee Wee house league Big V7 Emiels 2 Big V opened the scoring of the game on an unassisted goal by John Hall. Minutes later Emiels' Jason Brown scored. from Mat Brown and Ryan Duff. Big V end- ed the scoring for the first period as Craig Coates scored from John Hall and Greg Pugh. In the second period, Big V had the only goal as Craig Coates fired his second for the game from Johnathan McCourt and John Hall. The third period saw lots of ac- tion as Clay Scott scored for Big V from Craig Coates. Emiels scored seconds later as Ryan Duff netted one from Stewart Bruce and Andrew Garnett. It was Big V hustling for three more, Johnathan McCourt from Craig Coates and John Hall; John Hall from Jason Brain and then Mike Balmforth from Craig Coates. Final score: Big V 7, Emiels 2. Larocque Electric 5 Scala Bros. 2 This was another fine game in the Pee Wee House League Divi- sion. There was no scoring in the first, but plenty of end to end rushing. In the second period, Larocque scored two, Kyle McClymont from Justin Wootton and then Justin Wootton unassisted In the third period Larocque scored two more to take a com- manding lead 4-0. Darren Kin- nunen from Ryan Larmer and David Kemp and Justin Wootton his second of the day from Steve Kyte. Scala came back and Alan Calder netted a beauty from Mike Pashley and Matt Phoenix. Scott Swain scored for Larocque Elec- tric from Ryan Larmer and Steve Gilbert. In the final minutes of the third, Scala Bros. scored one from the stick of Alan Calder, his second for the contest, Mike Pashley and Matt Phoenix assisting. Fast Pickup & Delivery PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 6, 1990 -- 35 At tournament in Haliburton Games action packed Consumers Gas Pee Wee House League team travelled to Halibur- ton over the Feb. 3 & 4 weekend and played 3 thrill packed games. The first game was against Bancroft with these northern boys taking a lead with 2 goals in the first period. The gas boys rallied constantly with no avail. Bancroft cropped 2 more goals. Consumers still kept pressing and finally put the puck past the Bancroft goalie. Scoring for Consumers was Eric Lucyk, unassisted. Excellent game by all with the most valuable player award to Eric. The second game was against Haliburton, who led the scoring in the first period after only 1 minute of play. The score remained 1-0 until the latter half of the second period. When Consumers put home 2 con- secutive goals, one by Steve Cochrane and the other by Mat Mantel, who also assisted Steve's goal. Once again the tide turned and Haliburton picked up 2 more goals in the third period. Ian Johnston played an outstan- ding game between the pipes for Consumers but still the gas boys lost 2-3. Mat Mantel received M.V.P. for Consumers Gas. The third game had the crowd standing. Consumers were out to win and Wilberforce was just as determined. End to end play with excellent goal keeping for both teams saw Consumers go ahead 2 goals in the last 2 minutes of the first period. Eric Lucyk netted both with assists to Neil Hancock and Jeff Woodward. Board signs pact On December 21, with the assistance of a Conciliation Of- ficer, the Durham Board's negotiating committee and CUPE, Local 218 - Education Assistants, reached a tentative agreement. The two-year agreement will cover the period September 1, 1989 to August 31, 1991. Salaries will be increased by 5.5 percent in the first year and 6.5 percent in the second year. As part of the total Pay Equity adjustment, the "hourly rate will be increased by an additional .22 cents per hour, retroactive to September 1, 1989. The hourly rate will then become 11.89 for 1989/90. The agreement includes im- provements to the dental plan and the benefits program. The max- imum number of days allowed to accumulate under the Sick Leave Plan will increase from 80 to 160. Two additional days will be recognized as paid holdiays for this group. The agreement also covers changes to the provisions for unpaid leaves of absence, maternity/adoption leaves and vacation pay schedules. The cost of the settlement, ex- cluding the Pay Equity adjust- ment, will be $168,764. or 6.14 per- cent in 1989/90 and $209,747. or 7.06 percent in 1990/91. Including the Pay Equity adjustment, the cost of the settlement will be $222,129. or 8.08 percent for 1989/90. In the second period Wilber- force rallied with 2 goals - now 2-2. With 3:50 on the clock in the se- cond period Richie Tripp found the top corner of the net assisted by Mat Mantel. In the third period Wilberforce came back with 2 quick goals on- ly 30 seconds apart. The gas boys returned a minute later with a goal by Eric Lucyk assisted by Brandon Puckrin and Seat Prechitkn The blue & white machine was on the move with two more goals before the end of the game. One to Eric Lucyk - his 4th of the game and one to Jason Vader. Assists to Mat Mantel, Brandon Puckrin and Richard Kernohen. Final score 6-4 for Consumers Gas. M.V.P. to Terry Jellicoe who played an outstanding game on the blue line for the Port Perry Team. Atombattlie for win The Pineridge Atom B's came out from 2 close playoff games with a win and a loss. They met Bowmanville Thurs- day night and lost this one 3-2. It kept the fans on the edge of their seat from beginning to end. Bowmanville notched their first two goals on breakaway shots. With 3 minutes left in the second, Danny Robinson and Justin Halligan made a great play get- ting the puck to Derek Leeming who put it behind the goalie. Ear- ly in the third a hard working Shane Norton tied it up for Port. Kevin Hobbs and Matt Phillips picked up assists. Credit also to Chris Drury who took one of his blistering shots from the point to start this play. With 7 minutes left in the period, Bowmanville scored the winning goal after a scramble out in front. Paul Shrigley played a strong game in net tonight as did Bowmanville's goalies. These guys were fired up for Friday's game and defeated Cobourg 4-3. They scored the first three goals. Kevin Hobbs scored an awesome goal from out in front on a play set up by Chris Drury and Kevin Cochrane. Number 2 was scored by Shane Norton with assists to Jason Hopkins and Danny Robinson. Jason Hopkins was in the right place for many chances and final- ly got a marker for Ports third. Assist to Kevin Hobbs and a lot of credit to Justin Halligan who was behind the net doing the checking. Cobourg then poured it on and within the next 13 minutes, tied it up. Port then showed their deter- mination and kept setting up the play until 1 minute and 43 seconds in the game, when Matt Phillips scored the winning goal. Another nice play set up by Matt's hard working wingers, Shane Norton and Kevin Hobbs. This teams next 2 games are in Port Monday and Friday at 8:00.
