PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 6, 1990 -- 39 Shooters take dead aim in free throw event Ten boys and girls from the Port Perry area have been de- clared winners in the Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship. And these youngsters, aged ten to 14 will now compete at Ziad There were a lot of basketball flying around the gym at Immaculate Conception School the District level. The local free throw finals were held last Wednesday eve- ning in the gym at Immaculate Conception School in Port Perry. It was sponsored by the lo- skein cal Knights of Columbus Coun- cil 8961, and Pineridge Sports. The preliminary rounds in this basketball free throw event were held earlier at particpat- ing schools in Scugog Township. Each school sent a repre- oN one evening last week as students from all over Scugog took part in the Knights of Colum- bus "free throw" competitions. And after the plaques were handed out, many of the young- sters got together for this group photo to show just how it's done. Well, aimost how it was done. The following is the list of winners who will now move on to compete at the District Level Free Throw finals to be held February 26 at St. Anthony Dauvels School in Pickering. Melissa Gouldburn, Im- maculate Conception, ten year old girls; Daryl McEnaney, RHC, ten year old boys; Lynda Payne, S.A. Cawker and Scott Peters, RHC, were winners in the 11-year old class; Dana McCullough of RHC and Scott Prechitko, ICS were winners in the 12-year old class. In the division for 13-year olds, Misty Garvok of RHC and Mike Mitchell of RHC were the winners. And for the 14-year olds, Mandy Bright of RHC and Lee Channing of Cartwright PS. Each competitor was al- lowed 15 free throws in this con- test and ties were settled by suc- cessive rounds of five throws each until a winner was decid- ed. The Knights of Clumbus congratulate all those students who took part in this competi- tions, and wish good luck to those moving on to the District Level.
