_ = So ol Absent rep to lose seat on Board A trustee from Whitby on the Durham Board of Educa- tion was forced to give up his seat Monday night for missing three consecutive board meet- ings. John Buchanan missed the meetings on Dec. 11, Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, and in an in-camera session Monday evening the Board voted to have the seat "declared vacant," as spelled outin the Education Act. The Board also voted to fill the vacant seat by asking for ap- plications from any qualified resident in the Board's jurisdic- tion. Mr. Buchanan, who has been a trustee for three terms, said he missed the three meet- ings due to car problems, illness and business with a property he owns. Scugog trustee Bobbie Drew voted in favour of the Board's actions, but she told the Star ousting the trustee for ab- senteeism was a "very difficult decision to have to make." Advertisements seeking qualified candidates for the seat will be published in area news- papers. The Board has until Febru- ary 26 to fill the vacancy. D.J.
