First aid and C.P.R. courses to be offered af Nursery School BLACKSTOCK NEWS BY JOYCE KELLY On Saturday evening a large number of Junior Farmers and former Junior Farmers enjoyed the annual Banquet and dance held at the Newcastle Hall. This was in celebration of 75 years of Junior Farmers in Durham and included reviews by several past presidents over the decades. The quartet and square dance group which were each provincial win- ners in the past demonstrated that time had not taken away the talent. The evening concluded with a dance to the music of Ross Jackman. The Nursery School annual Valentine Dance held on Saturday evening at the Blackstock Recreation Centre was a great success. The large crowd enjoyed dancing to the music provided by Dennis Franssen amid the Valen- tine decorations. Recently Ken and Chris Hunter of Scarborough along with her mother Mrs. William Cowan en- joyed a Sunday afternoon visit with Grant and Ruth Thompson. Mae Jennings and Ruth Johnston attended Toronto Normal School in 1923-24 and have kept in touch these past sixty-six years. Cecil and Marie Gibson were Sunday afternoon visitors of their former neighbour Mrs. Madeline Brown in her home in Oshawa. Her many friends in this area are happy that Madeline has pro- gressed well following hip surgery. Dorothy Venning and Harold and Betty Barnett returned home on a very stromy Thursday even- ing from a fabulous holiday in Arizona where they toured the Grand Canyon and other sights they also visited Las Vegas where they tried out the various machines. Be sure to ask Dorothy about how they work. June and Bob Petch of Aurora, Harvey and Joan Graham of Pur- ple Hill, Rob Graham of Brooklin were Sunday evening dinner guests of Gerald and Joyce Kel- ly, Elaine and Esther. Most university and college students are enjoying a few days a week for Reading Week - a rather poorly used term as it can usually be questioned how much reading is done. All members of the Blackstock United Church are invited to return for hot dogs and hot chocolate following the Family Skating Party to be held at the arena during Public Skating on Sunday 2-4:00 p.m.. Family Skating on Sunday afternoon is a very popular feature of Winter in Blackstock when members of all age groups can be seen enjoying this favourite activity. Blackstock United Church com- munity was well represented on Tuesday morning at Port Perry United when Dr. Sang-Chul Lee Moderator of our Church visited for Breakfast. U.C.W. The Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. met in the Church meeting room on Tuesday after- noon, Feb. 13. There were thirteen ladies in attendance. Before the formal part of the meeting began we were given Valentine Crossword puzzles to fill out just for fun. This activity was under the direction of Thelma Wright. Marion Larmer, our new Unit leader opened the meeting by reading "Thoughts from the Church Moderator." This reading indicated that global solidarity becomes a real possibility. Next was the roll call, answered with many informative ways to "Keep Fit."" Next Thelma Wright gave a talk on Christianity in a Multi- faith World. Several ladies par- ticipated in the 'Interfaith Dialogue." An appropriate hymn "Walls That Divide" was sung while For all your NEW or USED CAR NEEDS with excellent service, contact sales rep., JEFF KROONENBERG PHILP PONTIAC BUICK LIMITED 288-8474 or [res.) 8585-3925 VALMED HEALTH SERVICES INC. There is also love of God and love for those who cannot give anything back. Grace closed by reading the 86th psalm. Mention was made of a pre- marriage workshop on March 10, when plans were made to serve the meal.
