A TITTY I pyre Bhan Kinsmen Hall on Sunday. The Kinsmen Club of Port Perry hosted "A Family Af- fair", a one act play of comedy and satire performed by Da- vid Goldberg. Mr. Goldberg performed two shows at the Exchange students speak at Immaculate Conception by Paul Mennega Hello. As you may know, Im- maculate Conception grade 8 students have been writing col- umns for the last few months, and now it's my turn! A way back in September, some exchange students from a group called Canada World Youth were on their way to Equador. They had just finished three months working on farms around the Port Perry area and did an interesting presentation to us in our gym about their program. They have just returned after their three months in Equador and gave us a new presentation about farming in South America. The slides that they showed us certainly show a different way of life than we are accustomed to. Recently the Oral Arts festival was held at 1.C. This included more than forty-eight paricipants, who performed acts ranging from raps to poetry, or speeches to story telling. Aaron Teissen told us a story in the style of Bill Cosby, about his brother Russell and made us all laugh while Stephanie Tufts gave a speech about the serious topic of AIDS. The grade two/three class of Mrs. Touchie did a large group choral presentation entitled "Bundle Buggy Boogie' and a group of grade sevens told us the story of the "'Gingerbreadman." Although there was no judging, it was very entertaining. Congratulations to Megan Bax- ter and Katie Ouellete of grade eight who just found out that they have each placed third in the Royal Canadian Legion Zone F-1 Remembrance Day contest. Megan had previously won first place in our local Legion contest for her poster and Katie had won first place for her peom entitled "Tell Me Why."' Well done girls. The senior classes were lucky enough to have two cross-country skiing trips this year. Unlike last year when we had to cancel twice, the weather was great and we had just the right amount of snow. Ex- cept for some icy conditions which made it tough on hills the trips were great. We love the new chalet at Trillium Valley and we want to thank their helpful staff, who contributed to our having a great time. The basketball tournaments for all of the basketball teams will be held in the 1st week of March. These teams are the Sr. boys' team, coached by Mr. Evangelista, the Sr. girls' team, coached by Mr. Hall and from the junior section we have the boys being coached by Mr. Burke and the girls by Mrs. Calder. Yes, all the teams are busy practising, for the east Durham Region Separate School tournament so the gym is being used at every spare mo- ment. Good luck teams! Congratulations to Melissa Gouldburn and Scott Prechitko for winning in the Knights of Col- umbus basketball free-throw competition. Melissa won in the ten year old age group by sinking eight baskets and Scott was also good for a win when he sank seven! These two sharp-shooters are now practising for the cham- pionship held in Pickering on February 26! Good luck Melissa and Scott.! Don't throw away that penny! Yes, it's that time of year again when we start to gear up for the penny drive. As it gets closer to Lent, you should start saving those pennies. Of course they will go to a good cause, Rose of Durham House for unwed mothers. Remember, you don't have to bring in bags upon bags of pennies, but every bit counts! Well, this about wraps up the report on Immaculate Conception and from yours truly. Ron & Sandra Richer were married at 4 p.m. on Satur- day, February 24 in Greenbank United Church with Rev. David Shepard officiating. Members of the wedding party joined Mr. Dave Thomson, father of the groom, in his home to take fami- ly wedding pictures. We are so happy for Dave. After a family dinner at the Gate Restaurant, friends and relatives joined the happy couple at Latcham Centre for the recep- tion and dance. Sandra's family from Cornwall area, and Ron's relatives from Scarboro and Greenbank area helped make this a happy time for Sandra & Ron. After a honeymoon in Venezuala, Mr. and Mrs. Thomson will reside on the family farm. Again Congratulations!!! Ladies come & join the fun, PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 27, 1990 -- 15 "Step in Tyme Cloggers"' classes at Greenbank Hall fitness and fellowship at Green- bank Hall. The 'Step In Tyme Cloggers" will hold classes on Thursday, March 1, at 6 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. For more information and registration call Marion Wat- son at 985-9008. Greenbank Brownies, Guides & Pathfinders Pancake Supper on Feb. 20 was a great success thanks to the wonderful response from the community. We were able to donate a very substantial amount to the "World Friend- ship" fund. Thank you to those parents who assisted, making our annual Pancake Supper another worthwhile fun evening. Please don't forget the "World Day of Prayer." Seagrave & Greenbank will join together for this service on Friday March 2 at 2 p.m. in Greenbank Church. The Theme is 'A Better Tomorrow -- Justice for All!" This service was prepared by the women of Czechoslovakia, who are now so much in the news. Right now it is a joy to see churches in that coun- try opening themselves to the pro- blems of the distressed and suf- fering. All this we read in the World Day of Prayer, prepared for us. After this service Greenbank afternoon U.C.W. will hold the business meeting for March. Please come and bring a friend and neighbour. Mrs. Margaret Real and Mrs. Betty Stone were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Harrison of Leaskdale last Wednesday. Margaret & Robert Couper- thwaite attended a special hockey game last week in Orillia. Margaret's grandsons were play- ing in a tournament. Please call 985-7886 or 852-6693 with your news next month.
