34 -- PORT PERRY STA 1! (92 | t ~ Good attendance at World Day of Prayer NESTLETON NEWS BY MABEL CAWKER The attendance was excellent at the World Day, of Prayer held Friday, March 2nd at 2 p.m. in Nestleton Presbyterian Church. The program was prepared by the Women of Czechoslovakia and the Theme was "'A Better To-morrow - Justice for All." Representatives of the local United Chur- ches...Blackstock and North Nestleton...Blackstock Anglican, St. Bernadettes, Caesarea Com- munity, and the hostess Church, Nestleton Presbyterian, took part in the service. Appropiate music was supplied by Organist Joyce Taylor. A visual display was set up by a member of the local planning Committee on the country of Czechoslovakia...newspaper items on coloured bristol board; program of play by President Haval; an encyclopedia from Scugog Library; a towel made in Czechoslovakia, plus general in- formation re: people, places and other facts. From the material supplied by Women's Inter-Church Council, an information sheet and map was copied off, and inserted in each program. The speaker (Mrs.) Susan Barge was introduced by Presi- dent of the Ladies Aid - Mrs. Dorothy Lee. Susan is the youngest daughter of recently retired Rev. Fred Swann of - Oshawa, and is presently atten- ding University of Toronto study- ing to become a Minister. She spoke on the topic - 'Equality for All... World Affairs and Czechoslovakia." At the close delicious refreshments were served in the Sunday School Room and a time of ecumenical fellowship enjoyed. Our thanks to the Ladies Aid for the sociability and the most refreshing cups of tea and coffee, and the super lunch. The offering will be forwarded to the Inter-Church Council of Canada, to help support their work for continuing World Day of Prayer Services annually, and for Mission Work in the country of Czechoslovakia. Nestleton Presbyterian Church 'On a bright, sunny morning the Church Service was conducted by - Rev. Wm. Fairley, at 11 a.m. with Joyce Taylor as organist. Mr. George Scott and Mr. Russel Brown were the ushers. Psalm 130 was read responsively and Scripture readings were Genesis 18 and Luke 18:9-14. Rev. Fairley had a story of "The Praying Hands" for the Sunday School. The Minister's sermon on this first Sunday of lent said we should express gratitude to God for His mercy and grace towards those who seek forgiveness for their sins. The holy love of God as revealed through the Cross of Jesus; brings judgment on those who reject His mercy, and com- fort to these who surrender to His grace. Church Service next Sunday at 11 a.m.. All are most welcome to attend. Social Bits Mrs. Neta Fish, Blackstock, was happy to see daughter Audrey and husband Jim Leishman and son William of Reaboro, on Friday evening. (Lent is a period of 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter observed by Roman Catholic Churches and some Protestant Churches as a time of penitence and fasting). We need to reflect on our life- style! The children's theme was of in- terest to the young fry re - the Season of Lent and what it meant. The six voice choir with Gwen Malcolm back in the 'swing of things' playing the organ, sang nicely, "It is no Secret." Offering was received by Ar- nold and Jean Williams.
