8 Selections clothing store now has fashions for him and her. After nine days of renova- tioning the former Selections store and House of Howard, the new operation opened Fri- day to rave reviews. Pictured Is Selections staff (from left) Stacey Churchill, Mayor Howard Hall, Tammy Churchill, Laura Taylor, Pamela Henshall, Olga Churchill, Fred Churchill and Lisa Vernon. Selections re-opens with fashions for him and her When Fred Churchill opened his men's clothing store in Port Perry four years ago, he was somewhat naive about the fash- ionindustry. "You learn fast when you make mistakes," Mr. Churchill admits. "When I opened Selections four years ago, I didn't even know that shirts came with two different "gleeve lengths," he told the Port Perry Star. But a lot has changed since Selection's grand opening. On Friday, the store had a grand re-opening to introduce Selection's move into the ladies fashion market. "The first day we opened we knew we wanted ladies wear," Mr. Churchill said. After nine days of renova- tions, which included expand- ing the store using floor space formerly occupied by House of Howard, the store re-opened in grand fashion. All employees wore Freeman Tuxedos, which are available at the store, and roses were hand- ed out to the first 50 women cus- tomers on both Friday and Sat- urday. Although a wide variety of women's clothing had arrived in time for the opening, Mr. Churchill said Selections' only received about 40 per cent of its inventory before Friday. Women's fashions will in- clude jeans, pants, blouses, sweaters, shorts, casual dress- es (no formal dresses), shoes and other accessories. Men can outfit themselves in a casual T-shirt and slacks or a tuxedo for that ial day. Mr. Churchill hopes the ex- pansion in inventory will en- ATTENTION ... He pointed out that his prices are competitive with franchise operations, yet the quality of clothing offered at Selections is much higher. It is the local crowd Mr. Churchill hopes to attract be- cause he himself shops locally whenever possible. When the store was renovated, Mr. Churchill recruited local help, the canopy for the front of the building was purchased locally, and the many antiques that furnish the store were re-done by local refinishers. Even cloth- ing alterations will be done by a local semstress.
