20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 20, 19% Mouth watering Easter Eggs still available NESTLETON NEWS BY MABEL CAWY.ER Seasonal thoughts: Well folks! March is now two-thirds over; and the official date for Spring is March 20. Being a bit of a pessimist...I believe that we will undoubtedly have some rough wintry weather yet. We are told...*'Nature cannot jump from winter to summer without a spring; or from summer to winter without a fall." So! Let us live each day ahead of us; to the fullest; with the heady mixture of rain and sun, cold and warmth; and the long- ings that leap within us; may we watch in wonder as all things res- pond to mother Nature; remin- ding us once again of this won- drous time of year! Nestleton Presbyterian Church The service on Sunday, March 18, 11 a.m., was conducted by Rev. Wm. Fairley with Mrs. Shirley Scott presiding at the organ. Psalm 95 was read responsive- ly; and the Scripture from Ex- odus 17:1-7 and St. John 5: '5-26. Fairley had an in- teresting story for the Sunday School concerning the recognition of symbols, and their connection to our present and relating to our past. Holy Communion was dispens- ed; with elders Russel Brown and George Scott assisting the minister. The sermon by Rev. Wm. Fairley was most meaningful to cach one present - the most im- portant part of a service of wor- ship is not the number of people in attendance, but an awareness we are in the Presence of God. Whether we are filled with joy or sorrow, anxious over something, or have peace of mind, we should express gratitude for the living presence of our Saviour, and thanksgiving He shares in our daily experiences. Service will be held next Sun- day morning at 11 a.m., and you are most welcome to worship at Nestleton Presbyterian Church. Nestleton United On Lent III Sunday, March 18, at 11:15 a.m., Henry and Effa Stainton were the genial greeters at the door. A very good con- gregation on hand for the cool day. Rev. The children's theme with Rev. Davis in charge, was most in- teresting...about the meaning of "Grace" and the youngsters par- ticipated well...a fine number at- tending the service. The Notman sisters - Clare and Jennifer sang unaccompanied "My Lord and I' A round of ap- plause greeted them at the close...a beautiful duet! Glen Malcolm and Arthur Weir received the offering. Crawford used as his text Ruth 1:16 and his theme was "A Firm Decision" - Ruth, a Moabite was not an Israelite. Yet! It was her firm decision which gave Naomi, her mother-in-law a renewed faith. It also helped to re-shape the history of the nation of Israel. Lesson 1, was read by George Kleinjan and lesson 2, by Dana Gibbons. Dana also helped with the singing. Organist - Kathleen Watts. Sunday Service at 11 a.m. A cordial welcome awaits you! Volunteer canvassers needed in Seagrave (From page 18) Lord's Supper will be celebrated at the regular hour of'9:30 a.m.. The U.C.W. will meet this Wednesday evening March 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Stanley Venner. Sorry for the cancellation of the Robinglade Ladies Group last week. The meeting was to be at the home of Sandy Jonah, however, as it was March Break a lot of ladies could not attend so we felt it best to change the date as we had a guest speaker com- ing and did not feel it fair to him to speak to only two or three peo- ple. Please watch the Seagrave news for the new date as we hope to have the re-scheduled meeting soon. Well, last but certainly not least, April month is Cancer month which is coming up very soon. Gail Kowalczyk in Rob- inglade Estates is heading up the Cancer society fund-raising drive and is in need of canvassers. I know this is a tedious job to do but it is certainly for a very wor- thwhile cause. The more can- vassers she has, the less number of houses each person will have to visit. Gail is hoping to limit the number of houses per person to between 5-7. As there are over 80 homes in Robinglade now, a lot of volunteer canvassers are needed. if anyone can spare some time to visit a few homes on behalf of this very necessary organization, please give Gail a call at 985-7930, I know she will welcome any help she can get. That's it for this week, please call Diane Cooke at 985-3722 with news items for next week. Don't waste is space. Small ads pay!
