Davids, Van Camp lead in novice house league playoffs On Wednesday March 21 the heat of the Novice play-offs got turned up one more notch as all four house-league teams took to the ice in search of 1990 Novice House League Championship. Van Camp 3 Port Perry Printing 1 Just one minute and forty-one seconds into the game Van Camp lit up the scoreboard first on a beautiful unassisted goal by Jeff Ashton. There wasn't anymore scoring in the first period with both goalies getting tested fre- quently. At 8:06 of the second period Port Perry Printing tied the score at one on a goal by Glenn McCready on a nice pass from Mark Delaney. At 5:25 Van Camp took the lead on a neat three way passing play scored by Casey Brown from Steve Nagie and Shane Savage. That was the end of the scoring in period 2 with the scoreboard reading Van Camp 2 - Port Perry Printing 1 With one minute left in the game and Van Camp still holding on to a one goal lead Port pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker. With 46 seconds reading on the clock Greg Bruton fired the puck into the empty net to put the game out of reach for Port. Playing in goal for Port Perry Printing was Tommy Keeble and Jonathon Chambers was between the pipes for Van Camp. Davids Hairstyling 1 Re/Max Realty 0 The second game of the day should have been called the Michael MacLennan and Mark Sauter Show because this one was truly a goaltenders dual. The first period was scoreless with the of- fence on many occasions skating away shaking their heads because the goalie had done them in again, stoning them left, right and center. The fans in all the play-off games have got their money's worth. With just 1:49 left in the second period Davids opened the scoring on a hard shot from the slot to take the lead 1-0. Scott Sanderson scored unassisted. At the end of 2 periods of play the score was 1 to 0 for Davids. In the third period instead of the play getting slower, the play got faster and the goalies got better too. With one minute left in the game there was a pile up in the crease & the puck was sitting all by itself in the goal line with no one on either team seeing it. It sat there for 2 or 3 seconds before Tyler Wootton swooped into the crease and taking the puck out of harms way. Re/Max had a few more chances but to no avail. The score ended 1 to 0 for Davids. In goal for Davids was Michael MacLennan and Mark Sauter was in goal for Re/Max. Playoff position out of reach for Juniors On Sunday, March 25, the Port Perry 1.G.A. Juniors hosted their counterparts from Warkworth for the opportunity to advance to the finals for the league champion- ship. It was expected to be a close game and the young ladies from each team played it that way. Warkworth scored first and led by 2 when Port tied it up in the first half. At this point Port scored a goal that was not allowed by the referee that would have put us ahead. As a result, Warkworth scored the next 2 goals and never relinquished the lead. The first half ended with Warkworth leading 5-4. In the second period, Port came within one goal of tying the game up but fell short as the final buzzer went. The last 5 minutes were spent in the Warkworth end but Port shooters couldn't seem to find the mark. Scoring in this game for Port were Val Payne 2 assists; Kendra McCrae 1 assist; Melanie Dunne 1 assist; Kristin Armstrong 2 assists, 3 goals; Denna Lovering 2 assists; 3 goals and Jennifer King 1 goal. Although this finishes our league playoffs the Port Perry L.G.A. team has one more impor- tant tournament to play this season. The Central Region Tour- nament is to played in two weeks and these young ladies are hoping to finish in the medal rounds.
