Reaching Out -- courtesy of -- WAGG-McDERMOTT- PANABAKER FUNERAL HOME, PORT PERRY HAROLD WAGG The "Visitation or Wake" When you have a period of sharing often referred to as "calling hours' you permit family and friends to express their personal feel- ings and respect about the deceased. This sharing is important to the bereaved family. It can also be important to those outside the family who may share a special closeness to the person who died. The visitation in the setting of the funeral home provides the best opportunity for this interaction. In some areas and in some circumstances it may seem best to publish or restrict visitation hours. Discuss this with the funeral director who can counsel you about the value of visitation, especially with the body present.
