Hetfern, Daryl Alexander and Ross Cascoyne. Coaches are John resent for photo Adam Johnston and Don Emmerson wins championship Eight minutes of overtime had elapsed before a winner emerged in the Bantam Houseleague final playoff game. Both teams played their hearts out in what turned out to be the best game of the series. Daryl Alexander was the star of the game for Emmerson as he tallied three of their four goals. Shawn Larocque handled the scoring for I.G.A. in the first period as there was lots of thrills in the end to end action. He was credited with the first goal as it was actually knocked in by one of Emmersons own men but the se- cond was a real nice effort as he went down the wing and cut out in front to pop it in. Both goaltenders, Mike Tripp and Rob Ashton, turned in strong games although Mike had looked a little shakey in the first period at times. In the second Nathan Brown was rewarded for his hard work as he was credited with the first Emmerson goal, one that was a bit of a gift. Daryl Alexander tied the score on a pass from Jason Dunkley. The score remained tied until the five minute mark of the third when Daryl notched his se- - cond goal to put Emmerson up by one. L.G.A. were pressing hard in the last couple of minutes of play, looking for the tie to send the game into overtime. 1.G.A was rewarded at the 17 second mark Petites come alive Bruton's I.D.A. Petites are back on track! After several ho- hum games which the coaches and the girls would rather forget, the team experienced success in two games played this past week. With the Regionals coming this weekend, it is a great time to get renewed energy and excitement. Thursday, the girls travelled to Lindsay for an exhibition game against a team which had given them good competition throughout the season. The final score of 14-7 for Port Perry en- couraged our girls, and made them realize that Coach Harris was right all along - "You can do it if you all give it your best." Shona Moase was sharp in net, foiling Lindsay's major scoring line often throughout the game. Port Perry scored two short- handed goals and took the only two penalties of the game. Melissa Dawson gave us a great show of her strength as she battl- ed Lindsay's best player along the boards and came out with the ring. Scoring for Port were Brandy Harris with 6 goals and 3 assists, CERNE CEPI Joan Anderson with 2 goals and 3 assists, Lynda Payne with 3 goals and 1 assist, Dana Hooker with 2 goals and 2 assists, Sheila Ranger with 3 assists, Leanne Wakeford and Cara Vander Slagt with 1 goal and 1 assist, and Melissa Pereman with 1 assist. The League Semi-final game against Ajax was played at home on Sunday afternoon. Port's Petites came out with confidence, - ready to play hard and go for the win. Katie Senyk was in goal and allowed Ajax to get on the scoreboard only 4 times. The final score was 6-4 for Port Perry who now goes on to play the League Championship against Whitby. The Petites are now determined to bring home another large white banner to be hung in the arena along with the Novice League Championship banner. The game against Ajax was layed well, with passing, check- 8, and hustle coming closer to the Coaches' expectations. First period goals were scored by Bran- dy from Cara, Lynda from Man- and Joan, and Brandy from Melissa P. and Natasha. The se- when Mike Williams popped in the tie marker. Both teams were tiring but they dug deep and provided some ex- cellent overtime play. With less than 3 minutes remaining in the first overtime period, Daryl Alex- ander made a nice play in front of the net on a pass from Vince Cris- cione for the game winner. Many thanks to the players and coaches of both teams for the ex- cellent effort in an exciting final game. And many thanks to the players, coaches and sponsors of all five teams, Emmerson In- surance, I.G.A.,, Swamp Auto, Frank Real Estate and Causeway Esso, for an exciting season of hockey. Winover Lindsay cond period opened with Ajax scoring a powerplay goal with a Port blue stick in the penalty box. Twenty second later, the tying goal was popped in, and it was a new game. Soon the fans were able to breathe more easily as Dana scored assisted by a nice pass from Cara, Joan put one in assisted by Cara and Melissa D., and Brandy finished off with a short-handed goal from Lynda. While not mentioned in the scor- ing statistics, the play of Jenny Storms cannot be forgotten in the win. She is counted on as a reliable and steady defence, who only occasionally forgets that it is not baseball season yet. Katie had to come up with some excellent saves as the red and white sweaters were in the penalty box three times in the last six minutes of the game. The time of the League Cham- pionship game against Whitby is to be Seeideq ne Regional games for the Petites are Frida at1:00in , 8t3:00 in Oakwood, and Saturday at 11:00 and 7:00in,' Oakwood. : Who will Van Camp play? The way Re/Max played this year was a tribute to the coaching Jim Park and Steve Lee did. Sportsmanship and fair play was displayed in the dress- ing room and also on the bench. Thanks for a good season Jim and Steve. 8 Now that spring is here (we think) youngsters in Scugo Township are starting to think outdoor sports; and that in- cludes soccer.
