Headquarters at Campaign Chairperson Doris Taylor's home, 170 Lilla Street North. The annual drive for funds for the Township of Scugog will be in full swing this week; as the month of April is Set aside as Cancer month. During that period, many voluntéers will be engaged in an all out effort to have a successful campaign. If you are asked to be a volunteer in this major effort; remember; it is not simply a generous: gesture; the fight against Cancer is everybody's fight; and an act of self preserva- tion; YOUR best investment for health and happiness! An Evening of Pleasure The variety programme held in the Blackstock Rec. Centre on Saturday evening last was a suc- cessful venture with a packed house! All performers excelled in their programme numbers. We commend the emcee Richard MacKenzie for keeping the show moving right along; with plenty of style; humour; and witty com- ments; for all to enjoy! AND - a good "boost" for the Blackstock Agricultural Society; in aid of their Grandstand Repair Fund! Congratulations to one and all} Nestleton Presbyterian Church On April 1st, the morning Ser- vice was conducted by Rev. Wm. Fairley, with Dorothy McCabe, the capable organist. Psalm 116 was read responsively, and Scrip- ture readings were Ezekiel 37:1-14; and St. John II: 17-29. The children's story centred around "Thoughts" - things we see- hear- touch; and how our minds retain them; discarding bad thoughts and keeping the good. The fami- ly of the late Harry McLaughlin was remembered in the prayers. Rev. Fairley's sermon: Within" our society a great deal of em- phasis is given to our physical welfare and comfort, but quite frequently the spiritual dimension is neglected, To experience the full joy of Easter it is necessary to prepare now be living in obe- dient love to Jesus who said "I Am The Resurrection And The Life." Evening Unit Meeting Leader Joanna Malcolm '"'hosted" the Evening Unit meeting at her attractive country home north of Nestleton, with nine present. After they had assembled she opened with a warm welcome. The minutes were approved as read. During business the following items were discussed. The General meeting of the U.C.W. will be held in the church on Tues- day, April 10, at 7:30 p.m., all members are asked to bring a $5.00 gift wrapped for the "touch & buy" table. A guest speaker will be of interest; Edgar Kirss- who will speak on the Canadian Lat- vian Community. A special invita- tion is extended to those of the Blackstock--Nestleton Charge. Refreshments will be served by the Evening Unit. Kay Notman reported the Agricultural Society Ir was a success. Roll call- Sing, Say or Pay- with several paying. Joanna was thanked for the use of her home; and those who helped with the ° meeting. - Workshop a Decided Success 'The 'People Power" Com- munications Workshop; organiz- ed by the Ontario North & South District Women's Institutes, was just excellent, It was held in Trini- ty United Church in Uxbridge, with a splendid attendance. The Workshop covered; Effective Listening Skills; Estate Planning . & Wills; and Effective Writing for your organization. The guest speaker Greg Lubianetzky, Senior Reporter from CKVR T.V Barrie was exceptional! A sincere thank you to Sandra - Campbell, 'Rural Organizations Specialist and Bernice Andrews, Chairperson; Workshop Planning Committee; for a great Workshop! A good attendance from our District of Ontario South, led by District President Helen McKean & Secretary Betty Reader. Afternoon Unit of Nestleton U.C.W. Meets The setting for the March meeting was the farm home of Leader Mabel Cawker, on Scugog Pt. Rd., with nine present. Some are still in the sunny south. The Leader brought the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. with a poem on Lent and a cordial welcome to all. She was assisted by Sec'y Barb Weir and Treas. Neta Fish and co- convener Marion Hall. The effective worship service was presented by Marion opening with hymn, "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" followed by meditation; "the Easter Message" re- Resurrection" - a few thoughts from the Observer written by our Moderator Rev. Sang Chul Lee. Scripture Luke 22 & John 20:21 was read, closing with a poem "O blessed Father Hear this Prayer" by Helen Steiner Rice. Hymn "There is a Green Hill" was sung with Gwen Malcolm at the organ. ' Minutes were approved as read 'by Sec'y Barb Weir & Treas. statement by Neta Fish was given; petty cash on hand $66.68. Roll call was well answered, "Sing, Say or Pay; " and Neta sur- prised all present with a lovely solo. Items of business discussed. Keep in mind the General meeting, Tues. April 10th at the Church at 7:30 p.m. with guest speaker Edgar Kirss; who is ac- tive in the Canadian Latvian Community and all are welcome to attend. Also- your $5.00 gift wrapped for the touch & buy table. Report of Presbyterial was 'given by Barb Weir. The after- noon Unit will prepare the flowers for Easter. Many used stamps & Campbell soup labels were turned in to Barb and 5 calls were noted during the month. Delicious Easter Eggs were purchased by many. The 'variety programme proved in- teresting with members pro- viding humorous readings and Irish stories; being St. Patrick's month. Everyone wore something green in honour of the occasion. Meeting closed with Mizpah Benediction. A lovely lunch was served by Marion Hall, Effa Stainton and the hostess. A good social time was meaningful! Nestleton United Church April 1st, at 11:15 a.m. dawned with a mild Springlike day for Lent V Sunday, at Nestleton United. David & Regenia Walker, Avril & Kyle, waruily Seiad the large congrega ein for the Service. The beautiful Sacrament of Baptism was solemnized at the Service with Rev. Dale Davis of- ficiating; assisted by Clerk of Ses- - sion Richard MacKenzie; The lit- tle one presented for Baptism was Jennifer Melissa Yellowlees, daughter of Karen & Dennis Yellowlees of Nestleton. We welcome this child into the family of God; and ask God's Blessing upon her and her family. The six part choir sang a love- ly number with organist Gwen Malcolm at the Organ. Rev. Dale Davis presented an excellent Lenten message; a time to share; a time to repent; a time to pray; a time to kneel before God and say; strengthen in us the will to give; to the poor in the world; so they may live! Scrip- ture Ezekiel 37:1-14 & Romans 8:5-11 read by Arthur Weir. An interesting illustrated story kept the youngsters on their toes during the children's theme. David Walker and Rob Mairs rec'd the offering. Service closed with hymn "As Comes the Breath of Spring." Dennis & Karen Yellowlees "hosted" a lovely baptismal lun- cheon at their home for relatives and close friends after the ser- vice; with approximately 30 or'so present for this Special occasion. Our "best" to this young family! Community Church Caesarea Oh a fine sabbath morning, a goodly number assembled for worship in the attractive Caesarea Church. Rev. Dr. W. H. Crawford and Rev. Victor Daugherty were in charge of the 'Service, with Kathleen Watts presiding at-the organ. Rev. Crawford read the lesson; Mark 3:1-12 and Karen Buchanan led the singing. Rev. Victor Daugherty presented a splendid message; . using as his - text...Isaiah 53: verses 3, 4 & 5. He spoke on "The Price of Sin" and the visiting Evangelist sang, "You Are Free."
