PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 3, 1990 -- 5 Whimsical art of D'Arcy Proctor on display at Scugog Library The winning whimsical art of D'Arcy Proctor is now on dis- play at the Scugog Memorial Li- rary The artist was present on Saturday,to greet and speak to visitors about hiswork. Mr. Proctor is a self-taught artist who lives in the rolling hills near Bethany. After retiring in 1968, he be- gan painting some of the local scenes, and beautiful old farm houses in Ontario. Mr. Proctor stated when he to research and planning before he starts to paint so that the end result presents a subject that is highly individual and pleasing to the eye. After several years of full time painting he entered re- gional juried art shows and won several first prizes which led him to Toronto where he exhib- ited his paintings in two suc- cessful one-man shows at the "Nancy Poole Gallery" on Haz- elton Avenuein Yorkville. Developing further style his interest in the Historica County Atlases led him to use the old sketches of farm houses and buildings on the country concessions as a basis for realis- tic whimsey. This has produced commissioned work from the descendants of the pioneer fam- ilies who still own the land. Mr. Proctor's art will remain on display at the library until April 20.
