Once again, it appears that the Scugog Youth Soccer Club is heading into another very suc- cessful season. As the thoughts of this area turn towards spring, a large number of Scugog girls and boys and their parents turned up at the YMCA over the past two weekends to in- dicate their interest in taking part in this very popular sport. By its very nature, soccer has proven itself to ne an excellent sport for all people. It is a great team sport, rather than a showcase for individual talent, and there is a position suitable for any interested person, whether large or small; aggressive or not. It is probably for this reason, as well as the enjoyment of being part of a team, that soccer has grown so quickly throughout Canada. It is now up to the Soccer Club to prepare the house league teams for this season. Sign-up has now been completed for this summer, but it is possible that a few spots may still be available as the teams are made. If, for any reason, a child missed this year's registration deadline, a few forms are still available at Sportsland (for in-person registration only) until the end of this week. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 10, 1990 -- 33 Still time to register for youth soccer Anyone interested in signing up will have their name placed on a holding list until Saturday, April 14. After that time, unfortunate- ly the Soccer Club will be unable to accept late registrations, as the team rosters will be completed. As anyone who has been involv- ed with the Soccer Club in Scugog is aware, a campaign is now underway to raise funding for the building of a clubhouse, including washrooms and canteen facilities at the soccer fields. It is hoped that the building will be com- pleted during the 1991 season, and this will enable the soccer club to use the proceeds from activities this season to cover their share of the costs involved. At present, the Soccer Club is selling bricks for $10.00 each to all interested sup- porters. Each brick purchased will carry the name of the pur- chaser and will be used in the ac- tual building itself. Bricks are available from members of the Soccer Executive. Once again this year, the Soc- cer Club will be sponsoring select teams which will travel to tour- naments held in other com- munities during the summer as representatives of Scugog. The Atom Selects, coached by Rob Johnston, will begin their prac- tices for this season (weather per- mitting) on Tuesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the soccer fields. This teams is made up of 9 and 10 year old boys and girls (born in 1980 or 1981). If anyone is in- terested in trying out for this year's Atom Selects, keep this date and time in mind, or call Rob at 985-8924 for further details.
