Letters "Earth Day" brings outa local concern To the Editor: April 22 being "Earth Day," v'hich indeed should be all year, has brought out a concern of mine. Living on Scugog Island and having to travel on Hwy. 7A over the past few years, the amount of garbage left by fishermen and onlookers is very annoying. There have been good attempts to keep these areas tidy but over the past little while a few barrels placed on site have not been emptied, at times when full. Hinges on barrels keep predators out, addition of lit- tering signs that must be enforc- ed will certainly help. Pollution of the waters has a great deal of affect on the fish in our lake. Fishing is a large part of our economy as we well know. Sports fishermen and tourists must keep it clean for future generations. It's one thing to clean up after the fact, but keep- ing this area clean is a far better incentive. Port Perry community and area residents should be proud of the area we live in. Dennis Sims, R.R. 5, Port Perry Ignored until nextelection To the Editor: The sanctuary of silence has been breached with M.P. Steven- son finally surfacing. Thanks to your excellent paper, letters section, and balanced reporting generally, we, the un- washed, are provided a voice otherwise totally ignored "Until Next Election Time."' Constituent representation is obviously not the name of the game. With very minor - interpretive - considerations, Paul Pagnuelo's letter of April 17th admirably covers the GST and related mat- ters. Not so Mr. Stevenson's published views. How reassured we all would be if only Mr. Steven- son had authored Pagnuelo's letter. Edward and Vera Simms, Scugog Township Sorry state of affairs To the Editor: With some minor inaccuracies, Paul Pagnuelo's letter published in your April 17 paper is infinete- ly closer to the truth than the re- cent written mumblings of Ross Stevenson - M.P. Stevenson ob- viously fails to recognize that while we may be a comparative- ly small community, it does not follow that we have comparative- ly small minds. A sorry state of affairs.
