Hello Bernadette By Julia Ashton Port Perry was turned into Hollywood North Thursday when Ber- nadette Peters and an entourage of directors, film crew and make- up artists hit town. The petite, strawberry blond actress travelled to Port Perry to shoot segments for an upcoming movie, tentatively titled "The Last Best Year of My Life." The made-for-television film, which also stars Mary Tyler Moore, is about how a woman copes with her impending death from a termi- nal disease. The film is directed by well-known American director John Er- man. (His last creation was "Stella" starring Bette Midler.) Port Perry's downtown core was to represent a small Missouri town, while a house on Cochrane Street represented a home in Ili- nois. When asked why Cinexus/Famous Players chose to film an Amer- ican movie in Port Perry, casting director Scott Mansfield told The Star that itis cheaper to work in Canada. But even though store fronts were changed or completely covered up, several local people stepped into the limelight.
