This week is Christian Educa- tion Week, and we are celebrating in several ways. Wednesday is Grandparents' Day, a time when the students' grandparents visit our school, enjoy entertainment and an Open House, followed by a luncheon. This Friday we will host a Book Fair at the school, and Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. is our Talent Night. Plan to attend this special evening and invite others along as well! This year's Spring Membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 15, in the evening. During that meeting, we will elect three new board members, as well as hear reports from each committee. Everyone was excited by the board's announcement that a new teacher has been hired for next year. Mrs. Charlotte Ashenhurst comes to us well - Qualified and Highly Recommended. For the past two years she has taught at Silvercrest Christian School in Wasaga Beach; in the 1990/91 school year she will teach our newly - formed grade five/six class. We look forward to this! The big "Z" week finally arriv- ed for the kindergarten class, and yes, despite some snow, they all went to the Metro Zoo. The sun came out and shone all day - it was warm enough that they could even enjoy eating lunches outside. The day ended at McDonalds with a treat and a time for the children to play in their great indoor playground, while mom's and teacher relaxed with a cup of coffee. With the alphabet finished, the class is now concentrating on the sounds that two letters make when they are together. They now begin their final Social Studies unit, on plants. If the snow stays away, they might actually be able to grow some plants outdoors! The three, four and five class studied the significance of the passover and how Christ has been the lamb that has been sacrificed once and for all. They designed posters using chalk and stencils to convey the relationship between the passover and Easter. Four 5th graders were chosen to attend art workshops at the Fine Arts Festival on April 27 at Durham Christian High. Students in grade six, seven and eight are working hard to wrap up a number of units. "Pastel on Canvas" paintings were com- pleted and sent to Durham High for the Fine Arts Festival. They will be back in our class, however, on time for Grandparents' Day (April 25) and Talent Night (April 27). Last week Mr. Irwin Smith visited our class and talked to the students about musical in- struments. They were then allow- ed to "make music" on the in- struments - a fine and fun learn- ing experience! In science, the class is studying living things and looked at adaptation and warm/cold bloodedness. This week under a microscope they looked at cells, the very small building blocks that make up liv- ing things. IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE ...
