On Saturday, April 21, 1990 the Port Perry Ringette Association finished off its season with the an- nual banquet held this year at the Latcham Centre. After enjoying a delicious pot-luck dinner we were introduced to our sponsors, referees and players. Over the past season we gain- ed two new sponsors - XL Gas Bar - Ken and Carol Irvine - sponsor- ing our Novice Eaglettes and Pineridge Sports - Bob and Con- nie Jamieson and Dave Ballingall - sponsoring our Regional Tween team. We are very pleased to add these new sponsors to our list of Bruton's I.D.A. - Jim and Marg Lawrence - sponsoring our Petites; Allen's Siding Products - Mike and Ilse Allen - sponsoring our Provincial Tweens; and IGA - Jim Grieve sponsors of our Junior team. Without the support of people like these we couldn't ice such fine looking teams. We certainly thank them all for their support. A plea was sent out for more people to get involved in the refereeing end of the game. They are desperately needed to help out those few we do have now. Without referees there would be no game. All of our teams made a good showing this year and the parents and fans are certainly proud of the accomplishments of our fine young ladies. The head coaches looked especially proud as they introduced the rest of their staff and then their team. Our bunnies were introduced by Rachel Traynor and Valerie Payne. This is the level where the little ones are taught to skate and then the basics of the game. These two girls are to be commended for the excellent job they have done with the little ones. This is where we hope to see our organization build a firm foundation. Thanks girls for a job well done. The XL Gas Bar Novice Eaglet- tes were brought up on stage by coach Walter Senyk, Diane Hooker and Brian Shanley. This team worked hard all year and put up a fine record by winning a gold, 2 silver and a bronze medal in tournament play. Their biggest accomplishment was to beat Oshawa out for the Central Region League Cham- pionship in a very exciting close game. This team brought home the silver medal at the Regional level. After much deliberation on the part of the coaches they decid- ed that Laura Hooker should Ly \ The Port Per Ringette Assoclation held its annual Latcham Centre. Next on stage were the Bruton's I.D.A. Petites coached by Dan Harris, Debbie Storms and Steve Payne. After a loud Grrrr from the girls to help' calm the but- terflies in the stomach of Coach Harris the girls were brought up on stage. This team had 3 gold medals and a 4th place standing in tour- nament play over the season. This team also won the Central Region League Championship in an ex- citing game. At the Regional level they brought home silver medals as well as the Sportsmanship award. Melissa Dawson was selected as the Most Improved player while Lea-Anne Wakeford won the Sportsmanship award. The Pineridge Sports Tweens were introduced by Dan Lally, Nancy Coyne, Rick Webb and Doug Dempsey. This team was made up of all 1st year tween age players and 4 girls who had never played ringette before. Although this team didn't win medals in tournament play, they faired well throughout the season and wére Central Region League Cham- pions. At the Regional level this team brought home the bronze medal and also the Sportsman- ship award. The Most Improved Player award was presented to Sarah Coyne and the Sportsman- ship award went to Leea Kinnunen. The Allen's Siding Products Tweens were presented by coach Lloyd Morden, Margot Fitz- patrick and Wayne Fox. This team had a successful year as an A team bringing home 3 silver medals in tournament play. They were pre-lim winners which sent them off to AA Provincials which was a step above their normal level of play. The girls showed that they were competitive in this calibre of play. The Most Improv- ed Player was Tammy Pillman - one of the players from Oshawa and the Sportsmanship award went to Karen Kett. The IGA Juniors were introduc- ed by Paul Pelow, Janice Lover- ing and Todd Poppleton. This was a team of mostly first year players, girls from Oshawa and other centres players who had never played before and these girls took a while to meld together. Although they won only ° a gold medal during tournament play they came home with a Tween.
