The Zoo Story is about two men who meet in a park and the relationship that evolves. The Festival of One Act Plays has taken over a year to co- ordinate, John H. Foote told the Star, adding that the idea is a "very exciting concept." It is the first time the Bore- lians have hosted an event of this type. Mr. Foote said that in recent years many people are past the stigma of what oti be- MUNICIPALITY OF DURHAM BD) THE REGIONAL lieve a small town theatre is, and are now realizing the high calibre of work local theatres cando. One of the main premises for having the festival is to allow other theatre groups to learn from the Borelians, while the Borelians learn from them. Lighting, sound effects and set construction will be mini- mal, Mr. Foote said, therefore allowing each production to concentrate on the art of acting and directing. Scugog Crises Centre appeals for women fo join in efforts against sexval abuse Are you concerned about the amount of violence against women which is taking place in today's society? Are you aware of the number of sexual crimes that are committed in the Scugog, Ux- bridge and Brock areas? If you answered "yes" to one or both of these questions, then perhaps you should consider translating these concerns into more affirmative action at the Scugog and District Rape Crisis Centre. The Scugog and District Rape Crisis Centre has been the pioneer and expert in the area of pro- viding sexual assault services to the women and children of these townships (and surrounding areas) since 1979. Because of the Provincial In- itiatives Programme- announced in January of 1990 the Scugog Rape Crisis Centre has received a substantial increase in funding from the Provincial Government. But, along with this increase comes an increased workload at the Centre. This increase is not only reflected in the number of crisis calls received and follow up calls required, but also in the amount of time spent in counselling and in preparing information packages for student projects and seminars. In 1988 the number of initial crisis calls had increased by 15 percent over the previous year, this was followed by the very dramatic increase in 1989 of over 49 percent. The figures which we have so far this year show no signs of a reverse in this trend. Because of the fact that the calls have increased and will con- tinue to do so, and that the Scugog Rape Crisis Centre is a feminist organization dealing with gender specific crimes, we appeal to women in Scugog, Brock and Ux- bridge Townships to join the FIREWORKS for SALE For the 5th Year - Huge Selection from around the World Located on 7A between Port Perry and Blackstock OPEN THURSDAY, MAY 10th thru 21st-9 AM to 9 PM Factory Fresh & 100% Replacement Guaranteed MOBILE SERVICE GUARANTEED WORKMANSHIP For info call 986-5105 SUNROOFS!
