3 B r Scugog Pt. land ownership questioned An application to re-zone a piece of property at Scu, Point has been tabled by Town ship council until it can be de- termined who is the legal owner of the land. Mr. and Mrs. George Hicks of Nestleton have applied to re- zone the land on the east side of Scugog Point Road from recrea- tional to shoreline residential. However, at a public hear- ing Monday afternoon, council was told that some 50 years ago, nearby property owners re- ceived individual shares in the land for use as a park. Eric Johnson, a member of the North Scugog Point Rate- payers Association told council he can't understand how the land came to be acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Hicks. He said about 50 people each had a share in the land, but ownership was in the name of Les Sadler, since the Associa- tion could not legally own the land. Tom McCullough told coun- cil the land is used by residents of the area for passive recrea- tion purposes, and it should stay that way. He presented council with a petition signed by residents who oppose the re-zoning. He said the land is used on a regular basis. However, law- yer Michael Fowler, acting for Mr. and Mrs. Hicks disputed that claim, stating the land had not been used as a park for many years. Mayor Howard Hall said council can't deal with the re- zoning until the ownership is- sue had been cleared up. NO OBJECTIONS Another re-zoning applica- tion, this one in the village of Nestleton, was heard by council on Monday. There were no public objec- tions voiced to the application by Ken Lavelette of Ajax to re- zone to allow construction of a garage to repair and re-finish wooden boats. * The land in question is on the south side of Highway 7A between the general store and the Petro Can garage. Although council made no decision on the re-zoning Mon- day, it appears that the applica- tion is going to get the neces- sary support.
