Curd Jr., vice- president and general director of personnel, announcel Monday that discussions over tle weekend with CAW national and Oshawa local 222 union officials and General Motors of Canada management have led to a resolu- tion of all disciplinary issues related to the unlawful strike at GM"s Autoplex facilities on April 24 and 25, 1990. "The illegal strike placed the integrity of the entire Collective Agreement at risk," noted Curd, "and resulted in lost production for the Company." '"'However, as we reviewed the individual circumstances sur- rounding the strike,"' said Curd, "it became apparent that some of the employees who participated did not fully understand the im- pact of their involvement. These individuals have now been fully informed of their legal and con- tractual obligations. Additionally, the union has committed to the , company and to their member- ship, in a written letter, to im- proving the problem resolution process between the parties and pledging that no further work stoppages will occur." "We are putting a great deal of faith in these commitments," Curd continued, "and have modified the discipline that has been assessed to the individuals who participated in the illegal strike." The vice chairman of local 222 will have his discharge reduced to a thirty days' suspen- sion with ten days to be served. The chairman of local 222 will have his sixty day suspension reduced to thirty days with five days served. Union represen- tatives will receive a one week suspension on record with no time served. The remainder, approx- imately 400 employees, will have their suspension reduced to one day on record with nc time to be served. Mr. Curd emphasized that General Motors of Canada Limited is dedicated to strengthening our relationship with the union. He stated that, ""it is critical, especially in view of to- day's competitive automobile market, to put this matter behind us and in a positive and construc- tive environment move ahead with the job of building great cars and trucks." Mr. Curd acknowledged that the illegal strike was a difficult issue for both the union and the company but credited the resolu- tion of disciplinary issues to the fact that an jppen line of com- munication existed throughout the event. Winners in local Judo club On April 21, 1990, two members of the Port Perry Shodokai Judo Club were winners at the Tora Judo Club in Brampton. There were 385 competitors present.
