During the 30-minute dem- onstration, the 12 placard- waving women chanted slogans like "Keep your laws off our bodies" and "No more patron- ism, no more s---." The group chose the post of- fice for the rally because it is Perry. It also houses Dur- SIGE En ham M.P. Ross Stevenson's avn constituency office. At one point, the demonstra- tors started singing "Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my body to me, tome." Although the rally raised a lot of attention in the down- town core, no altercations erupted. Many of the protestors ha ~ travelled from all parts of th province to attend the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Cen- tres (OCRCC) conference held in Port Perry over the weekend. Council insists trailers used for storage must be moved A Port Perry businessman has been given two weeks to re- move three tractor trailers that are being used for storage at the Jerry's Produce warehouse on Alma Street. Gerry Jonkheers, owner of the warehouse, wasn't happy when told Monday by council that the trailers have to be re- moved. "If you (council) force me to move them, I'll move them," said Mr. Jonkheer at the coun- cil meeting Monday afternoon. The trailers, which are backed against his warehouse, contravene the local zoning by- law because they are sitting on land zoned R3 residential. Mr. Jonkheer said when the trailers were moved there, his staff was not aware the land is zoned residential. The Township has received at least two written complaints about the trailers over the last couple of weeks. Mr. Jonkheer told council on Monday he would like per- mission to keep the trailers there as storage area for his warehouse business until Octo- ber 1. "I can guarantee they will be removed then," he said. But council refused to allow this. "The by-law is designed for the purpose of protecting neigh- bours. The trailers have to be - moved some place else," said Ward 1 councillor Neil Hunter. After Mr. Jonkheer left the chambers, council agreed he will have two weeks (from Mon- day, May 28) to remove the trailers. a i I TE a et mt a ne a a ot ae rt etl CL ce
