Spring is certainly the time for graduations. Several families have enjoyed attending convoca- tion exercises. If you have had such a happy event in your fami- ly please phone me with the details. Congratulations to Geraldine (Gerry) MacDonald who receiv- ed her Honours Bachelor of Nur- sing Science on Saturday from Queen's University. Those atten- ding were her mother, Mrs. Wm. MacDonald, her sister Dorie Brower of Scugog Point, her friends Jacqueline and Neil McDermott and children of Port Perry and her two clients from Kingston, Mr. and Mrs. Morris. Jim and Barb Byers, Julie and Jennifer travelled to Kemptville Agricultural College on Thursday to attend the graduation exercises when Jeff Byers graduated. Con- gratulations Jeff. On Friday Gerald and Joyce Kelly accompanied by Gerald's mother Mrs. Edna Kelly of Bob- caygeon attended the Convoca- tion Exercises at Queen's Univer- sity when Elaine received her Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree. Congratulations, Elaine; Bill MacDonald accompanied his son Glen and his bride to the Blue Grass Festival in Penn- sylvania over the weekend. On Saturday evening a large crowd of students and their dates as well as former students along 74 SCUGOG RD. The committee had decorated the hall very beautifully using the theme Paradise City. \ Congratulations to Les Argue who was the guest of honour at a birthday party ;on Sunday at Nestleton Hall. . Nancy Green, returned home last Thursday from her appren- tice nursing term in Moose Fac- tory in Northern Ontario. On Saturday evening a suc- cessful Jack and Jill Dance was held for Howard Bailey and his bride-to-be Julie Wright. This par- ty was held at the Nestléton Hall. Julie's mother Evelyn Venner of Kippen was a weekend guest of Neil and Elaine Bailey and at- tended the pre-wedding activities. On' Sunday afternoon a miscellaneous shower was held in honour of Julie Wright bride-to-be of Howard Bailey. Many friends and relatives attended. During the afternoon readings were given by Marilyn Green, Tara Bailey and Carol Mairs. Musical numbers were given by Katie Mairs and Catherine Corden. Julie was assisted in opening her many gifts by her maid of honour from Toronto and Tara Bailey. Julie replied fittingly after which a lovely lunch and social time enjoyed. The Rec Hall in Blackstock was transformed into "Paradise City" with most of the students attending the annual function. Above is the selec- tion of the 1990 Royal Family: from left Julie Cosgrave and King Bryan Green. Horticulture Project will be held on Wednesday May 30 at Blackstock United Church. Please note it is not too late to join this club. Marion Larmer enjoyed a Vic- toria Hospital Nursing class reu- nion in London on the weekend. Last Sunday May and Hector Shortridge were dinner guests of Victor and Winnie Malcolm along with Ralph and Leona Sadler of Nestleton and Victor and Ruby Parsons of Colborne. A most en- joyable visit took place. The Lions Club held a- suc- cessful Flea Market at the arena over Saturday and Sunday. Our local United Church con- gregation contributed to the suc- cess of the Bay of Quinte Con- ference meeting held at Durham College Thursday through to Sun- day. Several members baked snacks for refreshments, some others helped with Thursday registration and with running pro- jection equipment. Rev. Dale Davis did a superb job with the busy task of chairing the local ar- rangements committee attending the needs of the over 500 delegates. The theme speaker was Rev. Walter Farquason from Saskatchewan, a minister, poet hymn writer and a candidate for the office of Moderator. Music leadership came from Ron and Kris Klusmun. They brought pleasure, challenge, and inspira- tion with beautiful sounds and songs. Glenn Larmer was a voting delegate and Anita Davis and Grace Hall participated in the conference sessions. Sympathy is extended to local families who are bereaved, Sym- pathy goes to Bruce Leslie and children Shannen and Craig on the passing of Mrs. Brenda Leslie. . Funeral service was held on Saturday. The Leslie family lives on Church St. West. Sympathy also to Mrs. Pat Turner and family on the passing of Bill Turner. The Turners used to live on Road 57 just down from 7A and now live in Port Perry. Mrs. Turner has worked for some time at Lishmans. Mrs. Flora Samells attended the wedding of her granddaughter Carol Samells to Scott Moore at St. Paul's United Church in Swim Program which will be held the first two weeks of July. At the beginning of the meeting we watched a movie about sheep breeds. The new executive was elected - Presi- dent - Sean McKenzie; Vice- , Prince Eric Douma, Princess Vicky Newsome, Queen President - Jeff Kemp; Secretary - Elicia Bot; Press Reporter - Ailan McKenzie. Once again the leaders are Jim Coombes and Shelley Holliday. We also picked the two teams for "Go for Gold" and the judging competition. Well, that was our first meeting. Just wait for the se- cond one at Coomes' farm on May 21.
