In fact, a report from the Township building department shows that up to the end of May, Scugog had issued $8.5 million in permits, less than half the $18.4 million in permits during the same five month period last year. ) Virtually all categories of building are off this year, but the most dramatic drop is in new home construction. To date this year, the Township has issued 41 per- mits for new homes worth a to- tal of $6.4 million. By comparison, last year through May, 90 single family home permits were issued, worth $14.2 million. For the month of May, a to- tal of 47 permits in all catego- ries were issued witha value of justover $3 million. Last May, the total was 65 permits worth $5.6 million. Township will seek injunction Scugog Township will be seeking a court injunction to stop a commercial re-cycling business from operating on land in Concession One, west of Highway 12. The injunction will be sought on the grounds that the company, Please Save and Re- cycle, is operating a commercial activity on land that is not prop- erly zoned. Earlier this spring, the Whitby-based company applied to re-zone its property for com- mercial use. That re-zoning application was denied by Township council and was strongly opposed by a group of residents who live in the area. : Please Save and Recycle has been involved in collecting and storing recyclable material, mostly cardboard.
