Premier Wells was a giant among the pygmies --- the only true Canadian statesman, sup- ported by Manitoba's Premier Filman. Senate reform was the "carrot" given by 'Neville' Peterson of Ontario to push through Quebec's never-ending demands. Pompous Prime Minister Mulroney surrounded by lackeys from Quebec and fellow- travellers will go to no end in pressuring the provinces to give in to Quebec. Lest we forget, Bourassa sign- ed the Constitutional accord in 1971 at Victoria Conference then scuttled it after pressure from St. Jean Baptist Society! Quebec for the second time was welcomed in- to Confederation in 1982 and TWICE REFUSED! Now they blame English Canada for not ac- cepting Quebec. What hypocrisy! The far reaching powers by giv- ing in to Quebec's demands in Meech Lake will lead to the final destruction of Canada. First will come "sovereignty association' -- a country within a country -- with all the material advantages and few of the liabilities. They will bleed the country dry, then separate. Premier Wells in a letter to me has stated '"The accord goes far beyond what is necessary to ac- comodate these concerns and would prevent FOREVER the kind of Canada the vast majority of people espouse and desire" concluding that a unified Canada must be made up of Ten Pro- vinces, equal in Status and rights and the equality of all citizens and must not undermine the charter of rights and freedoms" unquote. Meech Lake was spawned by a francophone elite to give Quebec "French Power." Prime Minister Trudeau said "French power is here to stay and that Quebec can decide who will govern Canada, but more importantly how this country is governed." Trudeau also proclaimed "Quebec will have a. veto on con- 3. Air Conditioning RECHARGE includes Freon gas, oiling, & drying out system stitutional matters."' French power supreme, The only Premier in Canada to supend civil liberties and brag about it, in Quebec was Bourassa! He thumbed his nose at the Supreme Court of Canada when it ruled the language law was un- constitutional, and passed Bill 178 suspending the rights of the English-speaking in Quebec. Ten thousand English-speaking Quebecers have petitioned the United Nations, for their rights. With Meech Lake he will wield a complete dictatorial power over the rest of Canada. It must be stopped! Only you, the people of Newfoundland can stop it! All of Canada is watching and waiting! God speed, Premier Wells, Canada's only remaining statesman. To paraphrase Sir Winston Chirchill '" Never have so many been depending on so few." Respectfully Yours Dean J. Kelly, President Association of Dedicated Canadians Box 1000, Port Perry, Ont. | LIL 1A8 Thanks to so many To the Editor: Numerous credos must be ex- -tended to those who made the "Nonquon Day' an unmitigated success. The Nonquon Committee work- ed tirelessly over several months. Not only did they look after the organizing of the race, but gave birth to the idea of a Triathlon which in itself was a great accomplishment. Numerous volunteers gave of their time to help the events run 'smoothly. Some worked from the wee hours of the morning to late afternoon. The co-ordination of the volunteers was carried out with precision. The fire department, am- bulance attendants and local police played an important role, -as usual. The Loyal Orange Lodge, who generously support the Museum, provided sustenance to the onlookers. The Historical Society held a bake and plant sale all day 00. Finally, the competitors must be congratulated for their com- petitive spirit and fine effort. When all of this is put together one begins to realize the enor- mous task that is undertaken. by individuals to make this a tremen- dous day for Port Perry as well as recognizing the historical impor- tance of our Township by suppor- ting our Museum with moneys gathered. Once again, thanks to each and everyone who helped make this event so successful! Jack Moore President, Historical Society Surprised by viewpoint To the Editor: I was very surprised and dismayed to read the Editor's "Viewpoint" column (June 5th) concerning environmental issues. The "Food for Thought" that Mr. McClelland offered us was anything but a full meal, as his ar- ticle gave us only half truths and not the whole picture. He based his viewpoint on ar- ticles he has come across but doesn't give an accurate account of all the factors involved, and the thoughtful reader realizes that it generates many unanswered questions. 4. Front End Alignment '38.95 COMPUTER WHEEL BALANCING $5.95 heute weights What is lacking is any positive encouragement towards the 3 "Rs" - Reduce - Re-use - Recycle. Our concern for the environment must include a personal awareness of how our lifestyle af- fects the survival of this planet. Each person can make a dif- ference if we each assume responsibility to reduce the amount of garbage, for instance, that we sent to the dump by re- using and recycling, - as the say- ing goes, - If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. The Editor has written that the lines between myth and reality get conveniently blurred, depen- ding on the point one is trying to make. i I am disappointed that Mr. McClelland has added further to the confusion between myth and reality. His column would have served a more useful purpose had he focussed on the practical and constructive ways in which we can respond to this extremely serious threat to health, - and in- deed, to life itself. As David Suzuki says, "That's what today's struggles are all about; we are deciding what we will leave for our children." Yours sincerely, Lilian Timms Port Perry PLEASE RECYCLE THIS PAPER
