TT TT (From page 1) across Durham next year. Any present street names that are duplicated must be changed. And after making public a list of proposed name changes to streets, council is finding out that a few people don't like the proposed new name for the street they live on. On Monday afternoon, a Greenbank resident suggested that King St. in that community should be named Cragg Line af- ter the first settler. The proposed name for King St. in Greenbank is 11th Line. But Sandi James-Mitchell said that name would lead to confusion. Councillor Don Cochrane, who has worked on the street COMPARE THE RATE! AFIT INEEY Lo gba i od THIN wR Es etn / PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 12, 1990 -- 3 name changes for the Township noted that the road would be have to be called Cragg from Greenbank west to Durham 23 and east to the Seagrave Road to conform with the numbering system for the 911 grid maps. And a petition was present- ed to council signed by 46 Sea- grave residents who want their new street name to be River St., from the south entrance into the community to the north en- trance. There is already a River St. in Seagrave, but the petition suggested that be changed to Coriella Street. Changing street- names and making sure they don't con- flict with other already named streets in Durham has been a massive and at times confusing task, not only for Township offi- cials, but the public as well. ll Residents object to some ™ new street name changes One resident appeared in front of council Monday after- noon asking that her street on Scugog Island not be changed to Pete's Street. After some discussion, she was relieved to find out her street won't be renamed Pete's Street after all. "Just ignore everything I just said," she said, leaving the council table. While agreeing to the re- quest not to name the Ghost Road, council indicated the oth- er objections to name changes would be studied before a final decision is made.
