Large crowd at strawberry supper What a busy weekend has just passed in our village. On Saturday a large antique sale for the late Frank Hoskin was held in the Blackstock Arena. Cousins Mrs. Ferga Avery of Tilbury and Keith and Ruth Johnston of Belleville visited relatives over the weekend and attended the sale. Saturday evening found a large crowd attending the annual Strawberry Supper held at the Blackstock United Church. Several Junior Farmers and their friends from this area at- tended the Junior Farmer Dance in Omemee Curling Club on Saturday evening. Many families attended the an- nual Decoration Service held at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert on Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon many friends and relatives attended the Open House in honour of Hector and May Shortridge's Golden Wed- ding anniversary held at the C.E. room of the United Church. A beautiful tea table decorated the room. Special guests were Hector's sister Mrs. Minetta Martin and her daughter Louise and Ross Williams and family of Englehart surprised Hector and May by their arrival. Long time friends Irma and Charlie Primer of Hamilton were weekend guests. Heartiest congratulations May and Hector. St. John's Anglican Church held its Sesquicentennial service on Sunday afternoon with a large gathering from near and far. The very Reverend Ted Scott was guest preacher and Celebrant Rev. Ainsley Tucker took part in the choir. A bountiful pot luck sup- per was enjoyed by many follow- ed by a decorated birthday cake and ice cream. The evening was spent singing "old time hymns, a skit by Rev. Charles Bull and Colin Beal, and the Sunday School arrangement of St. John's." This was follow- ed by people donating articles past and present to fill a 'time capsule" which will be sealed and not opened until June 2140. A history book has been prepared about St. John's 1840-1990. This book is available to anyone interested for $10.00. Nor- ma Wolfe designed the cover while Jenny Beal prepared the History. A book can be bought by contacting any member of the Church. Michelle Price of Northern Ireland spent part of last week on her Junior Farmer exchange in Canada with Marilyn Green and family. Michelle and Marilyn toured many places of interest in this area before she left to con- tinue her exchange in Eastern Ontario. Congratulations to Cathy Paisley who graduated on June 15th with her degree in Business Management with an option in Marketing. Gordon Paisley and Shirley Hanson attended the con- vocation held at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. On Saturday Grant and Lorna Edgerton, Jean Mahaffy joined other family members when they attended the funeral of their un- cle Mr. Joe Flett of Bowmanville. Natalie Beechey celebrated her second birthday on Sunday. Her grandparents Jack and Dorothy Beechey of Paris joined local family members to help her celebrate. Leanna Bryans of Egypt was guest of honour for her 7th birth- day party on Friday. Bowling and supper and later a sleep-over was enjoyed. Those friends attending were Kim, April, Brenda, Aman- da, Andrea, Stephanie, Lyndsay, her sister Christina, Aunt Lisa and Grandma Shirley. Sunday guests for cake and ice cream were Aunt Patti, Uncle Rick and Nathan, Nana and Bob and her great grandparents Babe and Wilf Brown from Oshawa. Manny Saltariche has returned from an enjoyable holiday to the U.K. and Spain here he visited relatives and long time friends. Ross and Alma Duff enjoyed a holiday to Yukon and Alaska where many interesting sights were seen. There were 13 tables at the weekly Tuesday evening euchre party with the following winners - Faith Lawrence, Carl Gimblett, Pat Porrill, Eileen Warder, Gary Munro, James Emerton and low - Fran Gibson. Draws were won by Meta Swain, Kathleen Watts, Albert Watts, Ross McRoberts and Myrtle Gimblett. Nancy Bryans enjoyed the 100th Anniversary of Bowmanville High School renewing ac- quaintences with many friends.
