38 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 26, 1990 Christian students can p It's here! The last week of school! As students, parents and teachers look forward to their summer holidays, it is our prayer those weeks will be filled with that special love, fellowship, peace and refreshment that only Christ, our Saviour, can give. Our last weeks of school, however, were very busy ones. Kindergarten News (from Mrs. Ruth Van Eyk): It is hard to believe how quickly the year has flown by. The fun day at Ga- jewski's last week was enjoyed by one and all. The swimming pool was the major attraction and thankfully the weather was wonderfully warm. The Kindergarten Graduation on Fri- day went well, with the class presenting "Goldilock and The Three Bears." I am going to miss my 12 little kindergarteners so very much, but I can see that it's time for them to move on - they are definitely ready for the challenges of first grade. Grade One and Two (from Miss Michelle Dupre) : Our class trip to Toronto "got off the ground" last Monday, after being postponed because of rain the week before. We are finished most of our work now.and in fact are trying out the next grade's material. So far, "It has been easy - no problems!" It's really hard to believe that this is the last week of school. Thanks to everyone who has made my. first year here so enjoyable. Thanks also to all my kids, their mothers and the staff from the school for the beautiful "surprise" shower held this past Friday night for me. A special thank you to Linda and her son Shawn van Andel for the use of their home and organizing of the evening. I look forward to returning in September as Mrs. Libby and working with a new (and larger!) class. Grade Three, Four and Five (from Miss Rita Kolkman): The last weeks have been exciting and busy ones as we finish up various items and units. The class party on Friday was enjoyed by all, with awards given to the students in each grade who read the most pages this last half year. A big thank you to Mrs. van Harten for Pioneer Our sympathy goes to the fami- ly of Hugh Strong whom we had come to know, so well, thro' various connections. Last week it was indeed a pleasure to get phone calls from former 'Head' UCW members, Alva Thompson now of Richmond Hill and Reta Rodman, now of Oshawa. We learn that Alva keeps herself busy with family and personal matters and fre- quent visits to hospital where Clare is still a patient but holding his own. But Alva occasionally yearns for Port Perry connec- tions. Reta Rodman keeps busy with family & her choir & church connections. The choir recently entertained at the Port Perry Nursing home where Reta also visited with residents who she knew. This week the 'Head' UCW will be serving at the Hospital Tuck Shop. The Strawberry Supper at the Island United Church on Saturday was somewhat affected by the weather. However, those who at- tended reported a fine evening also with entertainment by the Golden Slippers, Bob Cawker's musical group and Linda Clements. The inclement weather on the weekend probably caused disap- pointments for holiday people, marking the spelling books this year and also to Mary Hoekstra and Elaine Stevens for volunteer- ing their time one morning a week. Our class presented special music on Friday at the grade eight graduation and they did well. 1 hope you all have a wonderful summer and thank you for your support, encouragement and input in your child's educa- tion this year. I appreciate and love you all! May God give you a blessed summer and we hope to see you in the fall again. Grade Six, Seven and Eight (from Mrs. Wilma Guetter): We had a wonder-trip to Midland and Orillia last week - the weather was ideal and our chaperones were great. Thank you for coming with us Hiddy, Elaine, Lois and Reta. All of a sudden it is the last week of school! Tuesday we had a science test and music presen- tations. Wednesday and Thursday held Math exams (for which students have been reviewing a week already). The graduation dinner and ceremony went very well Friday evening. Congratula- tions to: Stephen Bisschop, Melissa Burghgraef, Scott Daniels, Rosemary Michel and Vikki Seymour. Third term report cards may be picked up at the school on Wednesday, June 27 between 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. If they are not picked up at that time, we will mail them. It's a known fact that over the summer, children often lose some of the ground they've covered during the school year. To minimize these effects, we will include some suggested summer learning activities with the report cards. Attention all members of Scugog Christian School Society and their families. Please mark Saturday, August 25 on your calendars. That is the day of our "Let's-Get-Reacquainted-End-of- the-Summer" corn and wiener roast at Pat and Ernie Guen- ther's. Time 3:00t0 8:00 p.m., and don't forget to bring your bathing suits - the Guenther's have a pool. You will be contacted a week before this date with a few more details. Have a great summer! ick up report cards on June 27 The grade 8 graduating students at the Scugog Christian School in Prince Albert were presented with diplomas in a ceremony held last Friday. Days this week yard sales, hay makers etc. but it probably was a blessing in some areas. At least we didn't have the sufferings of Iran and the disap- pointments of politicians. The ladies of the Women's In- stitute are still waiting for your calls to 985-7616 or 0407 or 7426 for pick up on Sat. June 30, of your unneeded articles to be donated to their large yard and bake sale at the community hall on the follow- ing Sat. July 7. Don't forget the Scugog Shores Museum Pioneer Weekend Sat. June 30 and Sun. July 1, an annual event with displays, activity & lots of refreshments served by the Old Fashioned ladies of the "Head" UCW. Have just read "The Bridge," the 3rd edition of the Scugog Pastoral Charge and am amazed at the talents, inspiration and co- operation that has been aroused with the leadership of Rev. Lynne Belfry-Graham in less than a year. What encouragement and inspiration is being left for a new minister at the end of Lynne's challenging year! We can never forget her and her family. We certainly appreciate the in- troductory message, the designs, heading, format, printing, infor- mation, organization, record of past events, division of member- ship under responsible leaders and responsibilities along with co- operation. These booklets mean much to members who are other- wise involved at the present time and are not able to participate as in the past. If someone is interested in giv- ing a good home to cute little kit- tens, free, just call 985-8605 in the evenings or 7732.
