We trust all who live within its borders are proud to be Cana- dians; regardless of the many in- ternal problems that confront us. As we enter the 90's; let us pause and look around us! In the centre Canada's reputation stands high; ye are a respected nation; we symbolize freedom, and our ac- complishments are many! Let us rejoice and say; we are mighty glad to be Canadians! Wedding Bells Ring Out An elegant wedding was solem- nized on Saturday afternoon, June 30, when Leeanne Whittaker became the bride of Calvin Ban- nister, both of Stroud, Ontario. The ceremony was held in Collier United Church in Barrie; with the church minister, the officiating clergyman. The wedding music was beautifully played by the organist. The reception was held at Stroud Complex with 150 guests in attendance. Close family members present were Mrs. Marlene Bannister and friend Roy Fitzgerald of Peterborough, Mrs. Neta Fish and Clavin and Yvonne Holland of Blackstock, Jim & Audrey Leishman and sons Jamie & Michael, or Reaboro, and many other relatives and friends from across Canada were present for the impressive ceremony! Grandma Neta Fish was honoured to say Grace before the delightful meal. After the reception; guests went to the young couples new home to witness the opening of the many gifts, which were very love- ly! When the Niagara honeymoon is over, Calvin & Leanne will take up residence in Stroud. Our warmest congratulations and best wishes for a happy life together! Evening UCW Meet The June meeting was held at the home of Yvonne Priebe of Caesarea, with 7 members pre- sent. The summer outing at Par- wood was discussed, and on July 10th, everyone will meet at the church for the car pool rides. Afternoon from 2-4 a tour of Parkwood; 4-5 tour of the Art Gallery; with supper at Marigold Restaurant. The summer meeting to be held at the home of - Betty Headon in Nestleton, on Tuesday, July 31st at 6:00 for a swim and pot luck supper. Kay Notman presented the treasurer's report. Karen Yellowlees gave a very in- teresting talk on Genealogy, and brought a book with a map of old Cartwright, which was very infor- mative to see the older family homesteads and learn of the fami- ly histories of local places. After lunch and a social time, all thanked Yvonne for a fine evening, before heading for home. Family Visitations Norm & Bernice Mairs of Fleet- wood Trailer Park, Janetville, en- joyed a happy occasion when they attended the wedding reception of Bernice's nephew & bride Glen & Laura Milne of Sundridge. After the festivities they returned home on Sunday evening. On Tuesday, they received a distinct shock when they heard that a sister-in- law had died suddenly in Sun- dridge; so they returned for the funeral of Thelma Kent; a favourite in the family. Our sincere sympathy to her husband Cecil, and members of the fami- ly in this trying time! Barry and Joan Malcolm, Sim ------ REI coe, were weekend guests with his parents, Lawrence & Gwendolyn Malcolm of Nestleton. They all were Monday luncheon guests with Dennis & Laina Malcolm and family of Ajax. Neta Fish "hosted" a party of Wed. night for Jeff and Karen Pammonett of Peterborough; it being Karen's birthday. An ex- citing evening with birthday sup- per complete with lovely cake and gifts; to make it a special occa- sion! Best wishes to Karen for many more! Holiday weekend company with Sam & Mabel Cawker, at the farmstead, were Merna Cawker and daughter Cathy of Oshawa. We prepared a little birthday sup- per for Merna who celebrated on Canada Day. A great time; in- cluding a nice visit; was the order of the day. Our '"'very best wishes" to Merna for a fine year! On Monday, Sylvia Cawker and daughter Chandre of Scar- borough, were guests at the farm; they "hiked thru' the fields; up hill and down dale" with their pet dog, and enjoyed a good visit as well; over a salad luncheon, before wending their way homeward! The Scugog Shores Museum Pioneer weekend on Saturday, June 30, was rained out I unders- tand; but Sunday, July 1st, was a delightful day with beautiful sun- shine; lots of activity with displays; entertainment; crowds galore; and lots of tasty food serv- ed by the Old Fashioned ladies of the Head UCW. We take our "hats off"' to the able committee! The Blackstock Nestleton out- door Service on Sunday, July 1st, 10:30 a.m. went off fine, held at the home of Bill & Jean Ferguson of Blackstock. Although the weather wasn't ideal; a very good attendance! Rev. Dale Davis brought the fine message with Linda Kyte playing the piano. Sorry to have missed it!
