The Needhams, Pete and wife Marty took over ownership of the store on April 1st, and Mr. Needham states they have made a lot of noticeable chang- es in the overall impression of the store. Since taking over ownership, the Needhams have opened the store up, decorated, added dis- plays, and organized products, making it easier for customers $0 find what they are looking or. In the future Mr. Needham also said they hope to purchase Obituary Earl Martyn, former W. EARL MARTYN JULY 3/15 to JUNE 14/90 Earl was the son of William and Henrietta Martyn. He farmed on the family farm on the 4th Con- cession of Reach Township until 1977. He was a dairy farmer, with a herd of purebred Holstein cows. In 1939, he married Jean Parker (Anderson), who was killed sud- denly in a car accident in 1965. They had two children, Marion (Mrs. John Lake of Oakwood), and Bruce, of Etobicoke. In 1970, he married Jean P. Clark. He was always deeply in- terested in the affairs of his com- munity, and was a member of Prince Albert Church, serving as Elder, Steward, and Sunday School Superintendent. He served on Reach Township Council as Councillor, Deputy-Reeve and Reeve, and School Trustee. Also, he was a devoted member of the Oddfellows Lodge (Warriner Branch) for forty-seven years. After his retirement from far- ming, he became a volunteer driver for Community Care and Meals-on-Wheels. He especially enjoyed his years as a school bus driver, and was loved and respected by his young passengers. Earl also worked for the Lung Association and was a Big Brother for several years. In 1984, he was awarded a Bicentennial medal by the Pro- vince of Ontario for his outstan- ding work as a volunteer. After a lengthy illness, he pass- ed away in Oshawa General Hospital on June 14, 1990. The funeral service was held in Prince Albert United Church on June 18, new cages and bird flights for the store. Doc's pet store sells mostly small animals such as kittens, and birds, but tend to stay away from dogs, as people do not like tosee themin cages. Mr. Needham also stated he has a large display of tropical sh. Doc's has a large selection of feed, which is supplied by Mil- brook Farms, and Mr. Need- ham explains their food is sold at the lowest possible price. The pet supplies, which he describes as 'a long line of all main accessories' are supplied by Hagen. . Mr. Needham also stated that his store works in conjunc- tion with the "Grooming Gal- with Rev. Bob LePage and Rev. Don Tansley officiating. Ivam Parkinson read the 23rd Psalm, and nephew Ronald Wanamaker talked about his memories of Un- cle Earl. Carol Nokes, his great- niece, sang two beautiful solos. As well, the Prince Albert United Church choir sang a fitting an- them, under the direction of Mrs. Eva Hunter. Pallbearers were lery", which is owned and oper- ated by his sister Lynne Needham. He went on to say that this is a new experience for him(own- ing a pet store), and that he and his wife have other jobs so the managing aspect of the store has been left up to daughter Brenda. He said Brenda has three years experience working in a pet shop, and has been an animal lover from a very young age. Police seek public's help fo recover stolen boats Crime Stoppers and Durham Regional Police are asking for the public's help in solving two recent thefts of boats, motors and trailers, from the north of the region. Sometime between the night hours of May 25 and early morn- ing hours of May 26, the following items were stolen from the area of Regional Road 10 and Regional Road 23 in Sunderland: -- A 1986 Adventure Bass boat, 17%' in length and was grey in colour. The boat was equipped with a 200 H/P Mariner outboard motor. It was on an Adventure trailer and was covered with a tarp. Total value of the boat, motor and trailer was $17,000.00.
