4 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 4, 1990 DR. M. GILMOUR wishes to announce the opening of his practice of FAMILY MEDICINE effective July 3, 1990 in association with MEDICAL ASSOCIATES of PORT PERRY 462 PAXTON STREET 985-9758 ama oh Is Scugog one site for new Region garbage dump? Is Durham Region eyeing Scugog Township as the possi- ble location for a new landfill (garbage) dump? Ward 1 councillor Neil Hunter posed that question to the Region's planners and plan- ning committee June 26 in Port Perry at a public meeting over the review of the Durham Offi- cial Plan. Regional chairman Gary Herrema, who was at the public meeting, declined to answer the question. But he also didn't give a categorical "no" to councillor Hunter'sinquiry. It is known that the Region has pin-pointed five potential gites for a new landfill. At the public meeting, Her- rema joked "if you know any- body with 500 acres of good clay land, we want to talk to him." Durham and Metro Toron- to have concluded a deal this spring to open a landfill near the Pickering hamlet of White- vale. But that site is designated to handle just six million tonnes of Metro and Durham trash, and will be closed in 1996. Contacted after the meet- ingby the Star, councillor Hunt- er said perhaps it was not ap- propriate to ask the question about landfills at that meeting. But he said he has been "hearing rumours" and "bits and pieces of information" that one of the sites the Region is looking at for a new landfillis in Scugog Township. "I don't know anything more than that," he told the Star. | | | ! { i | ee ETB THURSDAY, JULY 5th - 7 PM to MIDNIGHT EXTRA SPECIALS from 10 PM to 12 PM COUNTRY UPHOLSTERY & Delivery 705-328-1156 Free Estimates PAUL VAN CAMP Chartered Accountant x PORT PERRY 204 Casimir St. 985-9725 LoL 1B7 *INCOME TAX D.J.
