According to Brian O'Neil, maintenance engineer for the Trent-Severn-Waterway, weed conditions in the Scugog Canal are not too bad. He stated they have not sprayed in Scugog for two years, and have no inten- tion to this year, unless a prob- lem area is found. It becomes a judgement call after that, we spray depending on the density of the weeds. Boater complaints are checked out, and we decide if the area warrants treatment, he said. Mr. O'Neil stated his respon- siblity is for a 100 foot wide chanel, to maintain it for navi- gation purposes. He said he has checked areas on Scugog in the past, notably near Goreski's Marina after boater com- Please recycle this newspaper ice Cream & Sundaes OURS LTA PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 4, 1990 -- 5 plaints, but the evaluation ot the area did not warrant spray- ing. He did add however that he does do inspections of lakes on the Trent, including Scugog, and time permitting he will be checking Scugog in July. He added that they check the tradi- tionally problem areas along the Trent, and he will evaluate the situation at that time. A representative of Goreski's Marina stated they have not heard any complaints from lo- cal boaters as of yet, that there are patches of weeds, but no real increase from other years. Beacon Marina, in Caesarea reports that the conditions are good on that side of the lake. A No serious problems yet with Lake Scugog weeds representative for the Marina stated that he has not heard any complaints about the Mari- na's side of the lake, but has heard complaints from boaters about conditions along the Port Perry waterfront. According to Steve Bull, of the Parks Department, the weeds along the lakefront, and beach will be sprayed for weeds probably later this month. Bob Falls, of the Trent Canal Sys- tem, will be doing the spraying this year. Swimming is not recom- mended in Lake Scugog for about 48 hours after the spray- ing, and signs will be posted along the swimming areas to warn the public. include $150./Session Canada's Wonderland, Ontario Place and more.
