Fair just six weeks away The 1990 Port Perry Fair is just six weeks away. This year the Port Perry Agricultural Society has some new and exciting events scheduled. One area of the Fair that is fun for children of all ages is the 'Junior Fair'. Children from pre-schooler to Grade 8 are encouraged to enter their specific class. All elemen- tary school children received a Junior Fair List during the last week of school. An entry form was attached for pre-registration. New this year is a Pre-Schooler Class. There are 3 sections in which they can enter: 1. Colour a picture from a colouring book. 2. A plasticine animal. 3. Print let- ters A,B,C,D, 3 times on unlined paper. Prices will be awarded for 1st-$2.00; 2nd-$1.75; 3rd-$1.50. All other entries will receive $1.00. In the Kindergarten Class, a few examples of entries are a dressed up boiled egg (in shell); print name and address twice on lined paper. Grades 1 and 2 children can enter an animal made from a plastic bottle; a Halloween mask from a paper bag. In the Grades 3 and 4 Class you can make a book mark from any material; draw a picture of 'My Pet'. Grades 5 and 6 can enter 3 iced brownies; drawing of Mickey Mouse. Grades 7 and 8 can enter 5 chocolate chip cookies; a lego article. For all ages, various vegetables and flowers can be entered. This is only a few of the many articles that children can exhibit. For a detailed list please refer to the list your child brought home. If you do not have the Junior Fair List a copy can be obtained from the Secretary by calling 985-3819. The complete 1990 Prize List Book can be obtained from the Scugog Memorial Library or the new Chamber of Commerce tourist booth. All children are welcomed to participate in the fun at the Fair. Saturday, September 1st is 'Kids Day'. Children are admitted free. There will be face painting by the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association. New entertainment this year is Doug the Great Entertainer. He . will be on the grounds on Satur- day all day. He juggles, does magic, balloon art and walks on stilts. Sunday and Monday there will be 2 shows daily, by Steve Hep- burn. Steve does magic tricks, and much more. Saturday, September 1st will also feature a Dress Up Contest for children. Classes are 3 years and under-Clowns; 4-6 years- Cowgirls and Cowboys; 7-9 years- Angels and Devils; 10-12 years- Old Fashion Dress. Prizes for each class is 1st $8.00; 2nd $6.00; 3rd $4.00. There will also be a' Ginger- bread Man Decorating Contest from 10:30-1:30 (on Saturday). So as you can see there are many exciting events scheduled. Why not bring the children to the Fair on Saturday, September 1st for a fun filled day. Mr. George Timms guest soloist sang two beautiful solos, a joy to listen to Church at the usual time next Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Trevealen and family from Stroud visited with Mr. and Mrs. Don McKean last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McKean Cannington visited with Don and Helen on Saturday. The sympathy of the communi- ty is extended to Raymond Kerry and family, his brother Walter passed away suddenly on Saturday. The Aked family spent a few days vacation- ing at a cottage on Christian Island in Georgian Bay. Stephen's father Mr. Maurice Aked spent a recent weekend visiting from Edmonton. There were 15 tables of euchre played on Friday evening in Utica Hall with the following winners: Ladies 1st Grace Bassant, 2nd Olive Ormiston & 3rd Verna Draper. Men's 1st Gary Munro, ond Jim Gibson & 3rd Rick Gillman. Freeze-out winners were Art & Rita Parratt with Rick Gillman and Gary Steele coming second. Draws were wone by Caroline Parish, Mary Cannon & Elsie Pogue. There will be another euchre in two weeks. Miss Karen Skelding spend several days at French River near Sudbury with her friend Daphne Radford.
