This is sponsored by Bethesda Institute. On Saturday, Epsom Area was shocked and saddened by the sud- den passing of Walter Kerry. Walter had lived all his life in the Epsom Area and was very in- terested in our Church work and Reach Women's ~ choir. He will be sadly missed. Our sympathy to his mother Mrs. Edna Kerry of Port Perry, to his wife Elva and their four children, Paul of Montreal, Mark and Don- na of Uxbridge and Glen at home. Sunday, July 29th Church will be at Epsom at 11 a.m. with Rev. A. McCurdy of Toronto in charge of the service. Picnic Sunday on Sunday. Tom is recovering from a recent visit to the hospital. Joyce and Richard Lewchuk and family of Kitchener were visiting Joyce's mom and dad Marie and Earl Wilson. Joan and Jennifer Asling of Hanover visited Don and Sella Asling one day last week. Tanya Wilson and Shauna Sim- monds enjoyed a week at Circle Square Camp. Yesterday Utica Hall was a hum of activity as hosts of friends came to greet Clara and Jim Jones of Glen Ma- jor on their Golden Wedding An- niversary. We all wish them many more years of happiness and good health. All were sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Douglas McCon- » nell of Peterborough. Our sym- pathy to Doug and the girls. This Saturday is the Junior Doubles Tournament. For a $5 entry fee, and a tin of balls per team you can enjoy two guaranteed matches, prizes, refreshments, food, fun, fellowship, and sportsmanship. Shown in the photo above are Jeff Murray, and Chris Linton, organizers of the event, and doubles partners Tasha and Sam Vanderwyst. Jay Nelll Is in charge of the draw. So get your racquets and scoot on down to the courts. The sign-up sheet is posted at the courts, deadline Is Thursday at 9 p.m. Nursing Home to hold giant yard sale Friday rain or shine by Wendy Clark Be sure to mark down on your calendar that on Friday, July 27th from 10am to 5pm we will be holding a Giant Yard Sale (rain or shine). Stop by to see the bargains. Many vendors will also be selling their wares. Monday July 9th we began the day by going strawberry picking. During the afternoon we had bowling with B, Gray achieving a high score of 90 points. Throughout the afternoon of the 10th a few residents headed to Cannington N.H. to teach them all about painting silk scarfs. Others joined in for a quiz and discussion. Wednesday we had a busy craft sesion. As you know Festival Days arrived in Port Perry on Thursday July 12th. Here in the nursing home we also celebrated. Thursday was a Mexican Day. Many activities were on throughout the day. We began with a discussion on Mexico. We then had a Pinata Party. A lot of fun was had breaking the pinata. A delicious tropical fruit salad and fruit juice was served to all. In the evening we had a 'South of the Border' party. Several en- joyed watching movies while snacking on Natcho's and cheese. Friday was our beach day. Mor- ning exercises were held on our imaginary beach. We also got to play a game of beach ball hockey. During the afternoon we had a beach party. Everyone had a great time playig the many water games, listening to the tropical music and drinking ice cold ice tea. Afterwards some attended the tropical cocktail hour which featured many fancy tropical refreshments. Monday, July 16th was our monthly residents council meeting. A variety of items were discussed behind closed doors. The following day we had inside games which were held in the air- conditioned diningroom. A nice way to pass a hot day. Wednesday afternoon we had many residents baking up pies. A trip to Sun- nycrest N.H. in Whitby was on the 19th. We all enjoyed the delicious BBQ and the socializing with our friends. During the evening delightful entertainment was pro- vided by 'Shades of Silver'. Fri- day, July 20th ended another week with a bingo, ice cream parlour and a fun with Art session. Birthday wishes are extended to Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell (26), Mr. Ralph Milner (27), Mr. George Freeman (28) and Mrs. Luvina Parkin (Aug. 5). A warm welcome to Miss Lillian Lawson from the Villa. We hope she likes it here with us. The residents and staff extend their sincerest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Leonard Beadle. Leonard passed away on July 18th. Upcoming events include Mon- Durham thly Birthday Party-2pm (25), Giant Yard Sale: 10-5pm (27), Foot Clinic (Aug. 1), Supper Club (2), Crazy T's Workshop (8), Jewellry Demo (10) and Family Picnic (12). West 4-H judging Competition was strong at the Durham West 4-H Judging Com- petition, on Monday, July 16th, at Wilson's Sales Arena. Fifty-five 4-H members judged classes of dairy, beef, sheep, horses, haylage, apples, and an iden- tification quiz. They were mark- ed on their class placings and oral reasons. The following awards were presented at this year's competition: C.N.E. Shield - high scoring 4-H member in the Novice section, Winner - Carl Phoenix, Runner-up - Vince McIntyre. High Junior - Teledale Farms, Sunderland, awards a trophy to the high scoring member in the Junior Section, Winner - Laura Phoenix, Runner-up - David Phillips. High Intermediate - Murray Jackson, Napanee, awards a trophy to the high scoring member in the Intermediate Sec- tion, Winner - Barclay Phoenix, Runner-up - Rob Raines. High Senior - Keith Phoenix awards a trophy to the high scor- ing member in the Senior Section, Winner - Bill Raines, Runner-up - Amber Frost. Beef Trophy - donated by Wyecrest Farms, Brooklin, to the contestant with the highest score in judging beef cattle, Winner - Barclay Phoenix, Runner-up - Nancy Kydd.
