The tournament had many close games with several teams finishing as one und two high game winners. The championship game fea- tured a team from Cobourg, against the Port Perry team of Joyce Storry, Hazel Pimblett, and Edna Smith. The Cobourg team prevailed, and were the recipients of the Emmerson Trophy. Two local teams from Port 'al Lawn Bowling Tourney Per} were in the prize money for the tournament. The team of Joyce Storry, Hazel Pimblett, and Edna Smith were 2 High Game Winners, and the Port Perry team of Clara Martyn, Anna Beaton, and Marie Cook- man were 1 Game High Win- ners. The Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club held its annual ladles tournament for the Emmer- son Trophy last Thursday. Even though the weather was a scor- cher, the Port bats were cold. This game turned out to be the pivotal one of the day as Port lost by a 3-2 score. Jeff Card pitched a 5 hitter, striking out 4 and walking only 2, but Oshawa was able to put 3 runs "SERVICE" together in the sixth inning to go ahead 3-1. Port scored a run off Oshawa's ace in the sixth, but un- fortunately could do no further damage. Driving in the runs was Darrell Vander Slagt with 2 RBIs. Brad Moase was chosen the Port Perry MVP of the game. In the second game against Cobourg, Chad Venning pitched a 4 hitter, striking out 6 and walk- ing none. The final score was 10-2. Port was in control of this game, with a six run lead until the sixth inning. Then, Kitchener got their bats going and drove in 3 runs making the score 6-3. Port got another run in the seventh and shut down Kitchener to win this one 7-3. Driving in the runs were Gavin Cochrane and Grant Kay with 2 RBIs, and Steve Laird and Darrell Vander Slagt with 1 RBI each. Darrell Vander Slagt was chosen Port Perry's MVP of the game. With 2 wins and a loss, Port Perry was eliminated from fur- ther tournament play since the Oshawa Shamrocks advanced with 3 wins on the day. The only other games for the week saw Port beat 7-0, and a raf second inning against Aurora last Sunday evening. Hitters for the week were: Dar- rel Vander Slagt with 5 singles, 1 double, 1 triple and 5 RBIs; Gavin Cochrane with 3 singles, 1 triple, 1 home run, and 2 RBIs; Brad Moase with 3 singles and 2 triples; Jason Cochrane with 3 singles, 1 home run, and 3 RBIs; Steve Laird with 4 singles, and 2 RBIs; Jason McBride with 4 singles; Todd Smart with 3 singles and 5 RBIs; Darrell Vander Ligt with 3 singles and 4 RBIs; Grant Kay with 2 singles and 2 RBIs; Ryan Picard with 1 single. The Bantams have a little bit of a breather from their schedule this week with only a practice sheduled to get ready for the rest of their league games, play-offs, and Summer Games to be held in Kitchener on August 16th - 19th. The next league games are August 6: Port Perry vs Scar- borough Reds at 8:30, and August 9th: Port Perry vs. Nobleton at 7 p.m. The team record is: Games played - 28, Wins - 18, Ties - 4, Losses - 6, Average - .714.
