Queen Street - Port Perry Lieutenant Governor will open 125th Blackstock Fair What a welcomed rain. So many crops and gardens were beginning to show the effects of the hot, dry weather. Blackstock was well represented at the Fenelon Fair on Saturday and Sunday. Many interesting attractions in addition to the regular fair events were on the programme. The annual VanCamp picnic was held at Caesarea Park. Presi- dent Kathy McLaughlin was in charge of the brief business sec- tion. Norma and Bill VanCamp held an interesting sports pro- gramme. Seventy attended the 35th annual family gathering. May Shortridge hosted a Bridal Shower on Sunday afternoon in honour of Pam Brooks of Peter- borough, bride-to-be of Vincent Mackie. After the lovely gifts were opened and admired, Pam thanked all the ladies and a social time enjoyed. Sympathy is extended to the family of the late Muriel Lawrence who passed away last week after a lengthy illness. For many years Muriel and her late husband Walter lived in this area. Sympathy is also extended to Mr. and Mrs. Shaw on the ac- cidental death of his brother in United States. The Shaw family lived for many years in Nestleton. Funeral service was held yester- day, Monday from Wagg- McDermott Funeral Chapel. Better health is wished for Miss Edna Larmer who is currently a patient in Port Perry Hospital. To make this year special, the directors are delighted that His Honour Lincoln Alexander, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario has accepted our in- vitation to officially open the 1990 Blackstock Fair. Prizes are being offered for visitors wearing Period costumes. Many contests of bygone days such as log saw- ing, hay tieing and nail driving will be conducted during the afternoon. Magic shows will be presented by local Magican Steve Hepburn. An antique machinery display along with demonstrations by Ben Madill will attract the attention of old and young alike. Attractions regularly found at country fairs such as the Horse Show, Cattle Show, 4H Achieve- ment Day and the outstanding homecraft and garden displays all are found at Blackstock Fair. The Media Milking Contest never ceases to be popular as does the Champion Cake auction. The Horse Pull is another favourite. Concession spaces are filled with merchants selling a large variety of goods and foods. The annual United Church Beef Barbecue Supper will be served. The action really begins on the Friday evening, August 24, with a Demolition Derby. There are still openings for contestants so anyone interested is advised to contact Secretary Joyce Kelly as soon as possible as spaces are limited. The whole event concludes with a Dance for all ages to the music of Bakerline D.J.
