Just drop them off to Mrs. Carol Fagel who lives on the Island main road, where the orchard is, once the home land of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Collins. The church service & picnic at the home of Nelson & Betty Reader did not turn out exactly as planned due to unforseen, incle- ment weather. Thus it was necessary to go back to the shelter of the Church where most everything continued for perhaps 56 people as formerly planned. As this is our last week of August with a climax to the Toronto Exhibition and local fairs ASR Sa approaching, many active groups are coming to life again. So, our first thought is for the "Golden Slippers" who display their talents twice at the Toronto Ex- hibition at the 'Heritage' stage. You may miss them on Monday of August 27 when they play from 2 to3 p.m. and again4:30to6 p.m.. But you may still have a chance to give them your loyal support on Thursday, August 30, at the same location from 5 to 6 p.m.. They'll be pleased to see you there. Choir practise will begin again at the Island United on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. If you have not joined this group before, you may wish to try it this year. Sept. 5 and invite Manchester and the "Head" U.C.W.'s, a guest speaker will be Dr. Eva Mueller of Port Perry who practises "Natural Healing." I imagine, many of us are pleas- ed to hear Bill Lishman of Blackstock will not have to lose the Canada Geese he has trained and cared for in a responsible manner and given pleasure to others through his pictures. Don't forget, all cars will be heading to Port Perry this com- ing Labour Day weekend for the Annual Fall Fair. We are constantly reminded that Rev. Lynne Belfry-Graham will leave the Scugog Pastoral Charge after Oct. 7. It has seem- ed like a short year. How we wish we could keep her! But we must accept necessary change & learn from our experiences. To express appreciation to Lynne & her fami- ly a Pot Luck Dinner is planned for Sept. 2at the Community Hall. Plan to attend. More news later. Holiday Weekend injuries The Ontario Provincial Police is encouraging safe and attentive driving during this last holiday weekend of summer. T/Sgt. Bob Lyon says the usual heavy volume of traffic, particularly on roadways leading to and from recreation areas, puts a strain on drivers. ] "Reaction time is lessened when a person has been behind the wheel for more than an hour," says Lyon, provincial traffic pro- grams coordinator. "And if a driver is distracted at all, that's another reason to pull off the highway for a break." Statistics indicate between 11 and 19 people died and more than 500 were injured in accidents in- vestigated by thé OPP during each of the past three Labour Day weekends. "I encourage motorists to allow sufficient time for their trip and to resist the desire to make up for lost time by passing other vehicles when it is not clearly safe to do so." He says his goal is to reduce the number of accidents this holiday weekend. * T/Sgt. Lyon says: "Speed, alcohol, drugs and failure to buckle up continue to be con- tributing factors in most fatal ac- cidents around the province."
