Mrs. stated that almost everything that a tourist was requesting, was available in for them, without send- ing em out of town. istors to the information booth not only came from other parts of Ontario, but other provinces, and countries as well. ' Ontario visitors came from Toronto, Kitchener, Ottawa, Pembroke, Canadians from Calgary, Edmonton, and Sas- katoon. The tourist booth also had a large number of foreign visitors from places such as Paris, France, Switzerland, New York, Florida, England, Ecuador, Scotland, Holland, and Wales. Aside from the drop-in cus- tomers, the information centre also answered phone calls about attractionsin the area. - Accomodations, fishing loca- tions, and restaurants were among the most requested in- Soi skion. a er popular requests were regarding Goreski's Marina, boat rentals, beer and liquor stores, post office, beach infor- mation, museum, ball tourna- ments, picnic areas, attractions such as the Farmer's Market, Tourist information booth helps 700 guests Skylark Boat Cruises, and in- formation on shopping and the buinesses in downtown Port Perry. A large number of road maps, and countless directions were alsoissued. - Mrs. Lee stated that overall, she was very pleased with the amount of visitors this sum- mer. "It was better than I expect- ed," she added. Mrs. Lee went on to say that there is a definate need for this service in Port Perry. The fig- ures should speak for them- selves. When the booth first opened she was told by the Chamber of Commerce that they were looking for 200 visi- tors per month. The booth sur- passed that with ease. Mrs. Lee also added that 300 is a lot of people coming in, even though the booth is not in the ideal spot for passers-by tosee. Although Mrs. Lee states that there is a need for the booth in the winter months as well as the summer, the booth is now closed until next sum- mer. She said there would be enough people in the area to have in open on Saturdays and Sundays, but there is not enough finances available to do 80. Chamber hosts business seminar The Scugog Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a . day-long seminar October 23 conducted by Warren Evans of jue Service Excellence Group, c. Evans bases his seminar on the premise that "whatever your business and whatever your position in that business, you are in the service business." Some of the topics to be cov- ered include innovations, mis- conceptions, the four inter- locing components of effective service strategy, and ways to find and fix the weak links in your business' chain of service. There are three ticket pack- ages available for the seminar. A company ticket at $195 for three persons, a manager's ticket at $135 and a "front line" ticket for $40.
