Sunday August 12th we held our annual Family Picnic. A great time was had with the games, the lucky draws, the food and the entertainment. Bill Askew and his clown band was great. A special thank you to Mr. John Ross (Meating Place), Tom Mitchell (Settlement House), Larry Em- merson (Emmerson Insurance), Harold Wagg, and Bill Barr (Stedmans) for supporting this band on our behalf. A few days later the Pine Ridge | Garden Club graciously took us on a trip to Exotic Cat World in Orono. Many residents were thrilled to see such a variety of ex- ~ otic cats. A very special thank you to this group for a wonderful day. Wednesday, August 15 was our monthly birthday party which was hosted by the Blackstock Woman's Institute. Featured V --. The following day a bus load headed to the Roy Thompson Hall im Toronto for "Seniors Jubilee" for a fantastic performance presented by all Sr, Citizens. Dur- ing the evening hours we spon- sored a Drive Inn. The residents were able to watch movies outside on the patio while munching on popcorn. A trip to Case Manor N.H. in Bobcaygeon took place on August 17th. A delightful picnic lunch was enjoyed outside with our friends. We then joined in on some games and a sing-song. Tuesday, August 21 was designated "Clown Day.' The residents had a great day playing many carnival-type games. The 23rd of August was our mystery ride. Tours of Scugog Island was featured for those interested. The very next day was "Bliz- zard Day." A great way to cool off on a hot day. Morning exercises were done to Christmas music. Throughout the afternoon we had winter games, think cold quiz and winter art. . Tuesday, August 28 we again headed for another exciting voyage. We had a delicious picnic lunch at Eaglewood in Peferlaw. Many residents were kept amus- ed by ""Circles" the clown. A few residents were able to stroll along the beautifal nature trails. Most of all we enjoyed toasting mar- shmellows over the open fire. Special entertainment was pro- vided by Gord Prentice and Coun- try Rovers. It certainly was a sight to watch the square dancers perform around the blazing fire. After feasting ourselves with hot buttered corn we topped it all off with banana boats. A truly lovely evening was had by all. Of course over the Labour Day weekend some residents were able to take in the sights of the Port Perry Fair. i September started off with a new college course. This session features Doll House Making in- structed by Janice Williams. Wednesday, September 5, we held an "End of Summer Bash." Many competed in the variety of contests ranging from Arm Wrestling to Sexiest Legs. Our first time ever Peachfest was on Friday (7). Quite a few programs were in motion all relating to peaches. On this day we were pleased to have visiting us some kids from the Youth Ex- change. We had some youths from representing Canadian countries and youths from dif- ferent provinces in Thailand. These youths helped to take part in our daily activities in the nurs- ing home. We learned a great deal from this great bunch. Special thank you for their delightful visit. Birthday wishes are extended to Mr. Bert Ayers (18) and Mr. Wilf Ryan (24). A warm welcome to Mr. Eugene Dearborne who comes from the Greenbank area and also to Mr. Allan Skinner from Port Perry. Upcoming events include Jewellry Demo - 1:30 (12), Barber - 7 p.m. (12), Aurora Nursing Home Visiting (13), Wine Making - 2 p.m. (14). Residents Council Meeting - 2 p.m. (17), Comfort Clothing 10-3:30 (19), and Dinner at Red Lobster (20). Congratulations to Mr. Arthur Edmonds on turning the ripe age of 100 years old on September 4th. Be sure to purchase your lucky ticket on a shopping spree at our 1990 Christmas Bazaar. Tickets available from residents and staff. Septemberfest features an accumulation auction at Burns Church Sept. 22 ASS 11D the Women's Missionary Society met at the home of Muriel Fisher last Wednesday evening. Presi- dent Lois Daw chaired the 'meeting and opened the meeting with a call to worship. Joan Knight was in charge of the worship service. He Leadeth Me was sung. 1 Peter 5:1-11 was read. Joan's meditation was titl- ed "Little Things are Important," followed with prayer. Plans were made for the fall Thank-offerings. Ray Death led in our study on "The Church Reaches Out' Our hostess served lovely «refreshments, and we enjoyed a nice half hour of fellowship. The Ladies Bible Class will meet on Wednesday evening of this week at the home of Margaret Davis at 8:00 p.m.. We are sorry to learn that Mrs. Evelyn Lynde had the misfortune to fall and break her leg. She is presently at Whitby General Hospital. I'm sure Evelyn would enjoy receiving cards from her many friends. Several of us enjoyed a fun day at Canada's Wonderland last Saturday. This was Church Days with the Gospel Music Festival. Some of the groups performing were Promise, and the ever popular Torchmen from St. Catherines, and many in our group enjoyed a few of the thrill- RR : i) JRN NEWS The Eleanor Knight Group of ing rides. Visiting with the Gardners recently were Mr..Norman Samells, Port Perry, Walter Rodgers, Oshawa and Mrs. Irma Tripp, Blackstock. I have a little more detailed in- formation for you this week regarding "Septemberfest."' This event will take place at Burns Church on Saturday, September 22. Lunch at 11:30 a.m., sausage on a bun (hot dogs too) and apple pie. Bake table, pick up bidding numbers and preview auction items. Talent auction begins at 1 o'clock. Bid on your favourites. Special "Accumulation Auction" item. A few of the items are gourmet dinners, mystery din- ners, golfing greens passes, pool party for kids, housesitting, babysitting, grasscutting, maple trees, house painting, surprise dinners, drives to appointments, and lots more. Proceeds for recarpeting church entrance. Wheels to Meals luncheon is on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 12 noon, at St. Thomas's Anglican Church, Brooklin. Call 655-3187 or 655-4284 for information. Registration for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be held at Ashburn Community Centre this evening from 6-8 P.M.. Registration fee is $45.00 per child.
