reese cease sssmeeee eee 32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, September 25, 1990 MoJacks split pair of games with the Eagles The Port Perry MoJacks kicked off their pre-season schedule over the weekend, splitting a pair of games with the Bowmanville Eagles. Saturday night at the Scu- gog Arena, the Eagles jumped into a 6-0 lead in the first period and then cruised along for a 10- 4 victory. But the next night in Bow- manville, it was the MoJacks turn to take an early lead, and they came home with a 5-4 win. In Saturday's game, the scoring was handled by three of the MoJack veterans from last year's club. Danny Maw clicked on a nice wrist shot from the 15 feet in front of the net. Defenseman Chris Arse- nazit fired a pair of power play markers and Todd Taylor rounded out the scoring with an un-assisted marker in the third period. Jamie Brown started the game in net for the ModJacks, giving up seven goals. Dwayne Mackie played the second half of the contest and he turned aside several tough shots from the Eagles. John Harman and Brad Menzies watched Saturday's game from the stands as the coaching staff wanted to give several players a chance to see how they perform under game conditions. Fowards Al Avery and Dax Wasylyk both had strong games and they appear to have found themselves a spot on the roster. In Sunday's game, the Mo- Jacks jumped into a 2-0 lead in the first period as Todd Taylor and Wasylyk found the range. In the second, Phil McBride made it 3-0, followed by Wasy- lyk with his second of the night and Jason Cochrane late in the middle frame. Brad Menzies picked up assists on three of the five Mo- Jack goals. There were a fair number of penalties in this game with John Harman and Dean Baum- hauer getting tossed for fight- ing. These two tangled more than once last year. And Dan Maw and Geoff Rohr also got heaved for a fight in the middle period. Rob Willetts was in uni- form for the MoJacks over the weekend. He was with the team along the blueline last year. The MoJacks are still look- ing to add a couple more de- fenseman to the line-up. The team will continue training camp this week with workouts on Tuesday and : Thursday nights. This coming Friday, Mo- Jacks will travel to Lakefield for an exhibition tilt with the Chiefs. And Sunday night (Sept. 30) the Chiefs will be at the Scu- gog Arena for a 7:30 face-off against the MoJacks.
