Their great sounds will fill the air that evening as Ken At- kinson Musical Productions presents "Harbour High, the 50's" at the Islander. This is the second dinner- theatre musical presented by Ken Atkinson at the Islander. Earlier this year, he staged Al Capone's Birthday that was well received by local audienc- es. The Islander is a restau- rant/dance hall on Concession 10, Scugog Island, just a short drive from Port Perry, and well suited to stage a dinner/theatre musical production. Ken, who plays the roll of a 50's character, complete with black leather jacket and greased-back hair, describes "Harbour High" as a musical with plenty of energy and action on the stage. with her friends. are used. "The audience," he says, "will feel as if they are actually stepping back in time to 1956 and a dance at Harbour High." "And we (the six person cast) want the audience to feel as if they are part of the show," he said. It promises to be an eve- ning of great 508 music, dancing and lots of nostalgia. Tickets are $30 per person and includes a full dinner, the stage show, followed by dancing to a DJ, playing rock 'n roll of course. Ken first wrote the musical "Harbour High" six years ago. He's a veteran professional entertainer, singer, choreogra- pher who has worked for both major TV networks in Canada, and at the Charlottetown and Stratford Fesitivals. Youngsters are invited to submit either a poster or essay to the Port Perry Star office (236 Queen St) no later than Friday, November 16 at 12:00 noon. ! The posters and essays will be judged by a panel and the winners anneunced during Re- cycling Week in Ontario which runs from November 19-25. The theme for the contest is "The Future is Rs. Recycle, Reuse, Reduce." The wining essay and poster will be forwarded to the Recycling Council of Ontario for judging in a province-wide com- petition. The essays and posters must focus on the need to re- duce, reuse and recycle. The two local winners will receive Cotton Ginny/Coconut Joe t-shirts. So come on, kids, get out your pencils and crayons. Write an essay or create a colourful poster. Have some fun and let's get everyone thinking about the Three Rs when it comes to gar- bage and trash.
