The Millar Lights are hard at work on a special Christmas present for people of all ages. The Lights are rehearsing the delightful Dickens story "A Christmas Carol" as a hiu- sical and will present four performances in mid-December. Under the musical direction of Tom and Catherine Millar, this group has presented Standing Room Only, A Child's Christ- mas In Wales, and last spring, Annie, their first full-length musical. "A Christmas Carol" will be staged at Town Hall on December 13, 14 and 15 at 8:00 PM and on Dec. 15 at 1:30 PM. Tickets at $8 are on sale at Irwin Smith Music or by calling 705-357-2340. Scugog council news briefs WO AFT WaT PNEEE WA RNR PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 6, 1990 -- 11 NOTICE Township of Scugog SNOW REMOVAL Any vehicle parked on Township of Scugog roads or streets that interferes with snow removal, will be tagged and/or towed away at the owner's expense. - (SEE SECTION 8, SUBSECTION C, BY-LAW No. 32-88, TOWNSHIP of SCUGOG) R.C. MacDonald Roads Superintendent TOWNSHIP of SCUGOG Scugog Centre is back on the agenda as the Township council has agreed to discuss the issue at a meeting next Monday, Nov. 12. Council has been trying without success for the last sev- eral weeks to find time for a dis- cussion on the Scugog Centre proposal which calls for new recreational facilities on land near the Scugog Arena on Re- gional Road 8. Whether the planned dis- cussion next Monday leads to some kind of vote remains to be seen. However, the discussion should give an indication of what support, if any, there is for the proposal as Scugog braces for some hard economic times and tight fiscal restraints in 1991. SIDEWALKS Council is about to cut back on sidewalk snowplowing oper- ations. A decision on what side- walks will continue to be plowed and which ones will be dropped is expected in the next couple of weeks. The issue came up for brief discussion Monday afternoon, with some members suggesting that only sidewalks on busy roads that lead to schools should be plowed by the Town- ship. Members of both the roads _ and parks committees are to "suggest which sidewalks con- tinue to get the plow before a fi- nal decision is made. NOTOZONING A request for a zoning change to allow a duplex at the corner of Highway 7A and Sim- coe Street in Port Perry was fined down Monday by coun- cil. The applicants want to tear down an existing single family house and put up the duplex. However, councillors Mari- lyn Pearce, Don Cochrane and Glenn Malcolm voted against the application. Councillors Yvonne Chris- tie and Neil Hunter were in fa- vour with strict sight plan con- trols. Councillor Al Goreski declared a conflict of interest on the issue because his brother is a home owner on the same street. Strong opposition to the re- zoning application was ex- pressed by several nearby homeowners who said it is not good planning to allow a duplex in an area zoned for single fami- ly homes.
