Ryan McQuade scored to open the game for Port Perry on an im- pressive solo effort to take advan- tage of an opposition penalty. Justin Williams of Port Hope tied the score less than a minute later. Port Hope scored two more goals in the second period and hung on in the third period for a 3-1 win despite a late Port Hope penalty. Additional pressure was ap- plied by the 'Auctions' as their goalie was lifted to try to break through the tough Port Hope defense. Kam Cooper (on defense) as well as Chad Lance, Scott Brownson, and Mark Delaney (of- fense) all battled well against the Port Hope boys. However, the score was not necessarily indicative of the effort put forth by the Port Perry girls. A very determined Port team dug in their skate blades and Mississauga had to work hard to score their goals. Port Perry's first goal was scored at the 10:41 mark of the first period. With two of Port's players occupying the penalty box Kim Poppleton deftly cleared the ring out of our end. Karen Kett picked up the ring and, in turn, made a nice pass to Denna Lover- ing who flipped the ring past the Mississauga goaltender. As the period drew to a close Kim Poppleton and Denna Lover- "ing again teamed up to assist on Port's second goal scored by Jo Ann Zaal. The third goal, assisted by Shannon Fox and Karen Kett, was scored by Denna Lovering on a nicely executed wrist shot. With only 1:01 remaining in the final period persistence paid off for Jennifer Morden and Jennifer Josephson. Their perseverence earned them assists on Port's final goal scored on a nicely plac- ed shot by Dawn Doucette. The final buzzer sounded with Port Perry down by four goals. However the girls demonstrated a winning attitude throughout the game. Special thanks go out to Janice Lovering for volunteering to spend time behind the bench.
