TN wr TER STERN This past weekend the Sport- sland Bantams participated in their first tournament. The first game was aginst the host team of the tournament Oakwood. Port jumped out into a quick, one to nothing lead, as Chad Gar- vock scored from Jason Coutilakis and Steve Desautels. Chad also scored the next goal with Jason, and Steve assisting again. Port then ran into some tough luck as a few goals were called back, and some bad penalties cost them, as with two minutes left in the game Port found themselves down a goal. Jeremy Norton tied the game on a nice solo effort which took the game to overtime. Both teams pressed, but no team could beat the goalies. After the first five minutes, sudden death period was over, the goalies were pulled, and five more minutes were put on the clock. Port pressed, but no one could pull the trigger. Then unfor- tunately, Oakwood scored, and Port lost a heartbreaker. James Paterson should be commended for his great goaltending as his glove hand kept overtime going a few times. Port's next game was against St. Annes, and Port was flying, as they outskated, and hit St. Annes, and were awarded with a five to two win. Chad Kearns deflected a Blair Pretchitco shot into the net for the first goal with Todd Smart also picking up an assist. Chad Coutilakis, and Steve Desautels picking up assists. Jeremy Norton scored the next goal on a shot from the point with Coutilakis and Desautels picking up assists again. Petite "B" squad. Allens opens season with win The Allen's Siding Tweens A team officially kicked off their ringette season with a game played and won in the cold and damp Long Branch arena. The girls all played their best and gave their fans lots to cheer about. Thanks to Marci Zuly who fill- ed in, playing blue stick, giving the Etobicoke girls lots to worry about. Sarah Coyne was awesome in the net, stopping shot upon shot from the opposing team. Vicki Stainton, Heather Lally and Kyla McCrae played red stick, display- ing good defence work as there was plenty of action in front of our net at all times. Amy Parliament scored the first goal within the first 30 seconds of the game, assisted by Linda Payne. Good work, girls! Within the first five minutes of the second period we had two more goals, both scored and assisted by Brandy Harris and Deanna Dempsey, respectively. Leea Kin- nunen and Amy Parliament played white stick throughout the game and were kept at a quick hustle all the time on the ice. There score ended with Port Perry 4, Etobicoke, 3. This Saturday night the fans follow the team to the Clatworthy Arena in Markham, game time 7:30 p.m.. Congratulations girls for a terrific start to another ringette season. See you on the ice! Amanda Wakeford scored at 4:30 from Geni Tayler, to close the gap but time ran out on the Port girls. Port Perry showed lots of hustle and if this first meeting between Mariposa and Port Perry is any indication of what is to come, we're in for some good ringette down the road. Port Perry 1.G.A.'s rookie goalie Kristie Aldridge once again played well in goal and with every outting is improving greatly. Down the road Kristie will be one of the Premiere Goalies in the Central Ringette League. Jenny Pashley and Lea-Anne Wakeford held body and soul together for Port by a good solid defensive ef- fort. An honorable mention for good hustle has to go to Mandy Smart and Natasha Burgess. The next game for the Petite "B" is in Manvers Arena on Nov. 10 at 6:00 p.m.. Come out and "enjoy."
