Canada Challenge Results by Scott Howey This past weekend two club playdowns were held at the Port Perry Curling Club. On Sat. Nov. 3 five teams battled it out for the Canada Challenge. First round action saw Ken Jeffery defeat Ralph Fairman while Bruce Peters handed Murray Lee a loss. The second round had Don Beaton eliminating Jeffery with Peters drawing a hve The final saw Beaton victorious over Peters and now advances to the Zone in Oshawa Nov. 10 & 11. Two winners from the Zone ad- vance to the Provincial Final in Trenton Nov. 23-25 to plav for such prizes as a trip to the Caribbean. On Sunday, Nov. 4 three teams squared off for the right to repre- sent Port Perry in Seagrams V.0. Mixed Competition. In the open- ing round Scott Howey and his team of Sandra Liston, Earl Mayes and Susan Garrett needed an extra end to squeak out a vic- tory over the Paul Griffen rink of Laurel Griffen, Roger Watson and Karen Parish. In the second round Howey met up with the Ralph Fairman squad of Kelly Evans, Bruce Peters and Carol Jackson with Howey emerging the winner. The final round of the day saw Griffen come out con top with a strong victory over Fairman. Howey and Griffen now advance to the Zone Dec. 15-17 in Uxbridge. The First Chance Dance is slated for this Sat. Nov. 10 featur- ing Tony & Roz Laser Video Karoake. There will be prizes for club members including a free membership. Tickets are Novice houseleague David's vs. Re/Max This was another close, fast paced game with both teams get- ting many good scoring chances. David's Hair Styling scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the second. Re/Max got one back in the second. The score could have been much higher at this point except for the excep- tional goaltending of David's Joel Phoenix and Re/Max's Mike Lefort. Re/Max tied the game early in the third. With the action going end to end it was anybody's game, but it was David's who netted the next one and then hung on to win 3-2. Congratulations to all the players for working hard and pro- viding exciting entertainment. Scoring for David's were Jason Gunn and Ken Ellis with assists to themselves and Steven Schewaga. Braden Tarbotton got both goals for Re/Max. Pearce Auctions drop maich 2-0 On November 2, Port Perry Pearce Auction Novice Rep team hosted the Uxbridge boys who had soundly beaten them in a pre- season exhibition game in Ux- bridge. In this game Port Perry showed a significant improve- ment but unfortunately lost again by a score of 2-0. The Port Perry team played on even terms for the first two periods with Uxbridge, but goals by Chris Mustard and Brad Douglas in the third period gave them the. win. Playing well for Port Perry in a spirited, but, losing cause, were Chris Monsma and Michael McLennan in goal, Bob Cowie (center) and Kam Cooper on defense.
