He is survived by his moth- er Norma Hurst, who resides in the Port Perry area, his wife Laurie and a teen-aged daugh- ter Alison, all of whom attended the service. Born Craig Russell Eadie in Toronto, he lived for a couple of years in Port Perry, attended public school here and was a member of a local church choir. His uncle, Scugog Mayor Howard Hall, recalled that even as a youngster, Craig was a born entertainer who loved to perform. Mayor Hall, who followed Craig's entertainment career closely over the years, said the funeral was held in Port Perry, because "this was home town for him." He said Craig would think nothing ofrentinga limo and ar- riving un-announced for a visit in Port Perry. His ashes were interred in the family plot at Pinegrove in Prince Albert, said the Mayor. Two years ago, Craig ap- peared on the stage at Town Hall 1873 in Port Perry in a cab- aret style show in which he did many of the female impersona- tions that made him famous. Proceeds from that show were turned over to the Town Hall 1873. After gaining international recognition for his flamboyant role as a drag queen in "Outra- geous" (he won best male and best female awards at one film festival) he went on to perform on stage in Vancouver, Las Ve- gas, Carnegie Hall, and the Royal York's Imperial Room. Well known Toronto publi- cist and manager Gino Empry described Craig as a "warm and generous person." Mayor Hall said his neph- ew was "a different person com- pletely" away trom the stage and world of entertainment. At the time of his death, he had been working on an auto- biography. A film crew was present at the memorial service Sunday afternoon. A film on his life is being prepared for TV Ontario, and the service will be part of that film.
