Students win high awards on Commencement night We start this week with very special congratulations to 3 local residents who received awards at the Port Perry High School Com- mencement Exercises. Todd Pop- pleton received four prestigious awards on his final year at P.P.H.S.. He received the A.B. Cawker Trophy for the highest standing in four grade 13 subjects, The Reunion Alumni Scholarship which was awarded to Todd for the highest standing in the OAC level Mathematics and Physics, The Port Perry High School Honour Graduation Scholarship for graduating from grade 13 with the highest overall average and finally, The Governor General's Academic Medal which is award- ed to the student who achieves the highest academic standing in the final senior year. That is quite a list of achievements Todd, congratulations. Also, congratulations go to our son Bill Sandiford and Laurie Buscher. Bill and Laurie both received the I.W. Parkinson Junior Math Award. This is awarded to a grade 9 boy and girl having attained an average of at least 75%, participated in the Pascal mathematics competition, participated in the Port Perry High School athletic program and made a significant contribution in other school activities. That is quite an honour for you both, con- gratulations Bill and Laurie. The Mariposa Ladies Group is 4-Hers honored at by Sandra Campbell, Rural Organization Specialist 4-H members from Durham West gathered at the Uxbridge Arena on Saturday, November 3, to receive awards for their year's work in 4-H. There were several individual club awards presented. The win- ners of the County Specials and Provincial Awards are as follows: - Top Press Reporter - Amber Frost, Whitby, South Ontario Dairy Club. meeting this Wednesday, November 21, at Phyllis Conlon's home at 7:30. The topic this week is an apple doll demonstration. For the demonstration, please bring an apple, a potato peeler and a paring knife. There will also be a craft show and a cookie ex- change. Please bring your recipes for your cookies. Don't forget to bring your mug and your $1.00 for the 50/50 draw. The Seagrave Fellowship Sisters annual Christmas dinner will be held this Friday, November 23rd at Greystone. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner commences at 6:30 p.m.. Hope to see lots of folks out for this one. The Seagrave Park Association Dance will be held Saturday, December 8 at the Sunderland Arena Hall from 8:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.. This is always a great local function so plan to attend. There will be a bus available and the tickets are $20.00 a couple. The Anniversary Service of the Greenbank United Church was held this past Sunday. Many members of the Seagrave con- gregation were in attendance. The speaker was Dr. Bob McClure who spoke on "Looking Ahead - update on World Outreach' and everyone enjoyed his address. Next Sunday the church service will be as usual at 9:30 a.m. at Seagrave. Last, but certainly not least, the turkey supper was, once again, a huge success.
