Ea BS a --_--__ ne IEEE Xmas programs by Mary Lynne Williamson, Curator /Director This week marks the beginning of our second annual *'Christmas in the Village' program -- a four week-long celebration designed to provide local school children and the general public with a glimp- se of the simpler pleasures of Christmas Past. Volunteers were hard at work this past weekend decking the halls of our log house, church, Victorian farm house and main building with traditional holiday trimmings, and our staff are bracing themselves for the seasonal onslaught of elementary school students (over 500 are cur- rently registered for the pro- gram!) who will be visiting the museum to learn about the Christmas traditions of our early settlers. For the general public, we will be offering several special pro- grams over the next four weeks, including our popular Christmas craft sessions for children on Saturday afternoons, and free ad- mission for children on Sunday afternoons. We will also be holding four evenings of Candlelight Tours, where visitors can relax after a day of shopping in town to sample hot mulled cider warming on our kitchen woodstoves, and tour our decorated buildings by the soft glow of lamp and candlelight. On Sunday, December 16, you won't want to miss the Lake Scugog Historical Society's an- nual Christmas Carol Service at PLEASE RECYCLE THIS PAPER our Museum Church (Head Memorial Church), which starts at 7:30 p.m. and ends with refreshments and social time in the rear hall of the building. Seating for this event is on a first- come, first-served basis, so make plans to arrive early to avoid disappointment. This will be my last holdiay season at the museum, & I will be leaving my post at the end of this year. Since this will likely be my last column, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the peo- ple of this community for the sup- port and kindness you have shown me over the past two years. I will take many happy memories with me when I leave, along with the knowledge that whoever succeeds me as Curator of the museum will be over- whelmed, as I was, with the un- failing enthusiasm and generosi- ty of the people & businesses of Scugog Township, which have enabled us to meet and surpass our operational goals and have made every single one of my working days a truly pleasurable experience.
