That's the night David Walden, recently having starred as Old Deuteronomy in Toronto's pro- duction of "Cats,'"' and his partner-in-rhyme, Arlene Meadows, current host of radio CFMX-FM's 'Luncheon Date" and "The Academy," team up once more to reprise their sell-out special 'A Night At The Grand." Those of you who are familiar with this show will remember its witty Cabaret song stylings, its classy music, and the perfectly- partnered duo of Walden and Meadows. Those who aren't are in for a musical treat as you are in- troduced to Walden's original numbers and clever satire rang- ing from first piano recitals (those potential nightmares) toa carousel of love. All unique and unforgettable. Walden, as actor, singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, author and yes, teacher, certainly has lit- tle free time. After acquiring his Master's degree in Musicology from the University of Toronto, he taught music for a time, then hit 'show biz' ten years back and has been performing ever since. "Cats," Theatre Plus's produc- tion of "Don Messer's Jubilee," '"'Beyond the Fringe,' '""The Pirates of Penzance," even a film stint playing the part of a direc- tor in Kronenberg's "Dead Ringers" -- the list goes on. Walden has also written several Cabaret shows, of which "A Night At The Grand" is the most ac- claimed, has produced records, and has even written a book, "Music Theory for the Bored and Confused." A multi-talented per- former indeed. Like Walden, Arlene Meadows is also a very busy and multi- talented entertainer. Originally from Brandon, Manitoba, Meadows was educated in Calgary, then moved to Toronto in 1954 to study singing under such famed vocal teachers as the legendary Dr. Ernesto Vinci. Having met in 1979, Meadows and Walden became good friends and music partners, performing many concert, Cabaret, and theatre pieces written by Walden since that time. Meadows has ap- peared with the Canadian Opera Company, Tyrone Guthrie's original Gilbert and Sullivan Company at Stratford, the musical "Jacques Brel' {in Paris and New York), and has perform- ed on Broadway in the Mac- Donald/Mirvish productions of "The Mikado' and "HMS Pinafore." In November '89 she tackled her first Pantomine in the National Canadian Tour of "Dick Whittington and His Cat." Any spare time is devoted to writing poems, short stories and, sometimes, floating in the ocean. (Her cats Bethune and Pussy Willow would love that). On Saturday, December 8, Port Perry will be privileged to hear and meet these two talented ar- tists when Walden and Meadows deliver another 'Night at the Grand" as a sparkling, pre- Christmas celebration of music and fun. Join in the celebration at 8 p.m. and gift yourself with some real holiday cheer. Tickets are available at Irwin Smith Music, or by phoning 985-8900.
